Well, Gary has jumped into STD then the doctor says LTD. Thank God that he works for a company that has both.

Here's a Q. Does anyone know if you are supose to also contact SS. We were told that myself and our 3 year old would get SSD benefits due to his disability.

We were also curious as to what other benefits we should look into.

Any insites or comments would be appreciated.

We have read about this on this board and thought that you may have some pointers.

Thanks Kim and Gary.

Hi Kim,
Most LTD plans require that you apply for SSDI. If you get SSDI, the LTD plan then pays only the difference between the full LTD payment and the SSDI payment. Still, it's a lot better than just SSDI, for sure!

As far as what family members get from SSDI, I don't have any information on that. You can probably just call the social security office near you and get some information from them.

Getting SSDI for fibromyalgia is difficult, but definitely not impossible. Feel free to email me at SamQKitty@aol.com and I'll give you whatever insights I can as to the process, having been through it myself. I can also give you the name of a great attorney who specializes in SSDI for people with FM and CFIDS.

Going through the process is stressful in itself, but once Gary doesn't have to work full time, he may start feeling somewhat better. It's very difficult to properly take care of yourself (having FM) when you're working full time.

Good luck, and if you email me, reference the FM healthboard to refresh my poor memory.

Thanks Ruth,

I just hope that I don't get any worse then I am. It is hard for our 3 year old. Daddys home but, asleep or in too much pain to do much. We both have noticed our conditins are getting worse with age. Work became imposile for him. It takes him an hour or two or three just to start to function.

Thank you,

Hi Kim - there is a website for social security that goes into detail regarding what the dependents & spouse are entitled to when the other spouse goes on social security disability. It is www.ssa.gov. (http://www.ssa.gov.) Lots of information regarding disability. Of course, I'm no expert at this, I have just now started the applying process and am not looking forward to it. Good Luck.

Hey Kim & Gary! how are ya?

I've been getting LTD now for I think about a year, little more. I just got a letter from the LTD carrier asking for verification of my filing status with Social Security. Uhhhhhh, I think I musta fibro-fogged and goofed, cuz I sure didn't apply! I took one look at my benefits statement from SS and decided "what's the point". So I suppose now I'll have to apply. I'll let you know if they dump me for not doing it.

Really wasn't intentional. You know how difficult it is to try and keep track of all the hoops we have to jump through. I'm not too slick at jumping anymore, ya know?

Anyway, hi to you, Rach, Al and everyone.

Copper and Ruth,

This is getting to be difficult. Garys STD person has changed 3 times in 12 weeks. At work that is. Each one is new to this and it is driving me crazy. I am starting to know the job better then them. They are still hopeing (ya, stalling) that Gary will majicly awake cured.

Ruth, you asked how it was going on another post so I answered here. Haven't heard yet. I sent SSDI all and then when I talked to the person there they said that certain things wern't recived. They found them I wouldn't get off the phone till they did. I was told 3-5 months till we hear from them.

I expect to jump through hoops but, I record all I tell them I need to because part of this is memory and photo copy on his STD the web page every time it changes. I look at it 2x's pd. Some days the info has changed after hours. Like getting paid and then not getting it that time because the new pwople don't understand what they are reading. So I have conference called the 2 and made sure the new person is updated. It's a pain trying to keep them on the up and up. We even had a friend of ours , he's a lawyer, call once just to get a call back. When the 3 rd person started. She wouldn't call us back after 3 days. He called and she called us in less then 5 min. How are you all doing? :D:

Hey there Kim and Gary,
Oh, yes, isn't jumping through hoops exhausting? You're smart to document absolutely everything, because sooner or later you're sure to need it! I learned to make the people at social security make copies for me of everything, because I'd find that if they wrote down what I told them, it was either filtered through their own prejudices, misinterpreted, or just plain weird (like a comment on an application someone was filling out for me that I couldn't play tennis anymore...I NEVER played tennis, I NEVER discussed tennis, and I wondered if this particular person was even speaking the same language!)

At any rate, lucky you to have a lawyer friend. I can't get over what a problem you're having with STD at your company. Either you're approved or you're not approved, and once you're approved, it should be a routine paycheck (even if it's not a full paycheck)...shouldn't change every other week! Maybe your attorney friend can ask that they send you a copy of the STD policy, so he can interpret it for you. As you've already found out, sometimes a hint of threat will knock loose the cement objects being put in your way!

You have my email address...feel free to drop me a note anytime or ask questions any time. I know how very lucky I was to have gotten through the whole process relatively unscathed, and whatever I can do to help others is my way of saying "thanks, God."

Happy Trails,
Ruth

Hi Ruth,

We lost all when our AOL broke down. The computer was totally messed up and we just bought a new one. We tried there DSL and lost our sound and many other functions. What a pain it is to start all over again. Oh well, that is life.

We were told by the company that the reason it is all messed up (our cheques) is due to the timing of the drs apt. and the info for it needs tobe in a week earlier. Wow, this is new. Okay, I then called the doctor and asked him to make Garys next apt a week earlier. This is total absurdity. We did ask for the policy again.

We are going to ask the doctor to rewrite his statment that Gary is totally out for good and to add that he comes in monthy because of the controled substance scripts. He'll put it more elequintly I'm sure.

How is all with you?

Just a word of encouragement. I went on LTD 3 years ago and getting SSDI was a breeze. I thought I would have to go to court, the whole route, but no one day I just received a check in the mail. My aunt who works for SSDI told me that if you are on LTD you usually don't have to fight for SSDI. I hope it works for you all that way.

Well my LTD just decided I could go back to work. HA HA So my lawyer and I are fighting them. WHat a pain. SO now my question is this; if SSDI says I am disabled andis paying me how can my LTD decide I am not disabled?

GOod luck and keep us posted Jean

Hello,

The LTD won't start till June but, his LTD policy states that if DDSI has accepted you they must. So that is good. I just hope it really works out that way.

Good luck with the court. Let us know what happens.
