I am day 12 post op and have had a check up. My right eye is perfect and my left has been diagnosed with DLK “Sands of the Sahara”. My consultant didn’t exactly fill me with confidence in the future outcome as he said there was little more that could be done other than persist with taking the dexamethasone antinflammatory drops and we’ll check again in a fortnight. My left eye vision is a blur and hasn’t really changed much in the last 7 days, which was when this appeared to set in. Does anyone have similar experiences or advice on this, or indeed what I can expect as an outcome ?

DLK causes the creation of fine white grainy cells that when viewed through a slit-lamp appear like waves of sand, hence the nickname Sands of Sahara. Although the infiltrates are sterile, the cornea attacks them and if left unchecked will destroy itself causing serious damage and permanent reduction in visual acuity.
Treatment is normally topical and oral medication. Sometimes it is necessary to lift the flap, remove some of the infiltrates, irrigate the area, and reposition the flap. Quick diagnosis and treatment is a must!

It sounds like your 'consultant' isn't familiar with how to properly treat it so I would recommend finding an eye care specialist.

Hello,
I have just seen your post. How are you getting on? I have been diagnosed with DLK in my left eye following Lasik. Is there light at the end of the tunnel?
