hi i have had an ed for six years but i thought i was keeping it under control latley i have been having problems going to the loo like not been for eleven days so three days ago i started taking laxatives but still nothing my tummy is very swollen and painfull can anyone help me i dont no wy this has happened i have not done anythig different

Hi,
I'd recommend that you go to your doctor right away. 11 days is too long, and since your tummy is swollen, there's something not right in your intestines and bowels. These organs can suffer damage from ED.
Please call and get an appointment tomorrow. I don't think anyone here can give you informed advice; you need medical attention.

hi thankyou i will go to the docs just worried about telling him about my eating habits i will have to lie iv hidden it for so long only my husband knows of my battle with food i have my children to consider dont want my doc thinking im a nut job thanx for your reply xx

I am so glad you will go to see your doc. I understand the part of hiding; it's part of the eating disorder. Eating disorders are so common now that I am sure your doc will just try to help you.
You are not a nut-case. You are a mother, a person, a wife, who happens to have an illness that needs to be treated. Would you fear that your doc would judge you and wonder about your ability to care for your kids if you had, say, diabetes? Not much different.
You can get treatment and you can get better, and asking for help is hte first step. Congratulations on being brave enough to come out of hiding. You're on your way to getting well.

Definitely agree- if you get too much stool packed in your intestines, you run the risk of rupture (worst scenario) or having to have someone manually remove the contents of your bowel (embarrassing, but will get you some relief, and get you on a routine of bowel elimination). Prunes, prune juice, sugar-free candy (in moderation), whole grains, fruits, veggies- all good sources of healthy gut food- and you need water to get it all sent through. Laxatives just set up a cycle of dependency, and need to be used only as directed by your doctor when you have a hx of EDs :) Best of luck, and hope you do ok- I know how miserable it is after a week....
