Hi there,

I am 46yrs old and recently been diagnosed with ET  .

My platelet count is 1,011 :dizzy:

I am now on aspirin and I have been asked whether I wish to commence gentle chemo treatment, my consultant informs me that this chemo treatment has no factual evidence of helping with ET apart from showing on 'paper only' that the platelets have been reduced back to near normal.

I have also been looking at alternative therapy and started taking apricot kernels (Vitamin B17). has anyone else out there tried this treatment?

I would venture to guess that your platelet count is actually 1,011,000. The normal range for platelets is 150,000 to 450,000. I do not know much of your condition, however, unless chemo is specifically needed to reduce your platelet count for dangerous health reasons, I would stay away from even "gentle" chemos. Once on any chemotherapy drug, you can open up "Pandora's Box" to a host of different problems. However, if they are needed to ward off more serious complications due to your high platelet count, they should be considered.

I know this probably didn't help too much. Wish I had more for you.
