Would it be dangerous to take Chantix and use Commit lozenges at the same time? I am scheduled for surgery 9/21/07 and I have GOT to stop smoking. I'm on my 3rd week of Chantix and although it helps somewhat, I STILL have a strong desire to continue smoking. I quit once before with the lozenges and probably need to add them also.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

I'd check with your health care professional(s) on whether it's okay to take Chantix and NRT simultaneously. The way it was explained to me is it sort of defeats the purpose of the Chantix to take NRT at the same time. I think there's even mention of NRT and Chantix together on the Pfizer website or Chantix pamphlet talking about that's a no-no.
FWIW, I had a strong desire to smoke while on the med as long as cigarettes were still available to me. It wasn't until I mentally took the next step (picked a quit date), got rid of all smokes, ashtrays, lighters, etc., and really took the plunge that the craves got manageable.
As long as I was permitting myself to still smoke on the med, I was still craving smoking.
Best of luck :)
