Im not new to this site but new to this topic. I am not diagnosed with anything I just want to know if it can be Alzheimer's or not. Im 17 years old, and ive always been very forgetful. When I was 10 I was put into special ed class's because im a bit slow. Today I am still in those classes. I didnt care that evrything I put an effort into learning I forgot about 4 minutes later , all I cared about was my hobbies which I can rember everything about. I also didnt care that I couldn't rember recent things such as something that happened 2 minutes ago.
My favorite hobby is flying radio controlled helicopter's. There not toys they go about 80 mph and can really chop a persons arm off! Anyways it is very technical and I began to notice that I began to forget alot of things about the hobby. Seem to rember older stuff I have learned but cant rember anything new i have learned. Evryday life is confusing. Recent events seem like faded memory's. Im a type 1 diabetic for about 7 months now. I have to give my self injections and write down how many insulin units I need to give my self to eat. Example...
I would eat a sandwich which has 30g of carbohydrates. I divide 30/15 which is 2. I run to my room to give my injection. CRAP I forgot the number what was that number! I go back to the calculator and I get the same number 2 walk back and still forgot. I have to constantly keep saying the number in my head over and over again in order to make it to my room with out loosing that number and give the right dosage. It seems that when I loose that number its caused by thinking about something else?? This really really sucks. I care now. Can It be?

At your age, Dementia or Alzheimers is impossible.

I would look at possibly some form of mild autism if anything. Your going through puberty, hormones change you, it's all mixed up at the best of times.

Go to your doctor. Get him to test you .... voice your worries

Goodluck

Since you've recently been diagnosed with diabetes, I would ask the doctor about other endocrine issues such as thyroid disease. Also stress can do tricks to your memory.

Go to your doctor and tell him everything that's been going on with you. Like angelbear said it could be a mild form of autism. Or it could be something that's treatable with a pill. Get to the doctor. In the meantime, try not to worry so much.

Love, Barb
