My son is 24 and has myopia of -14 diopters. He also has astigmytism - fairly bad but I can't state the number. Is he a candidate for lasik or other eye surgery. His retina is thin and cornea is flat.

His retina is thin and cornea is flat. squatchimo 09-09-2007, 02:23 PM I would doubt it unless he has super-thick corneas. You could call up and ophthalmologist who does the surgery and talk to them about his options. A lot of those guys will do free consults. EYESTWO22 09-10-2007, 06:23 AM You may want to consider :The Visian Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL - it is not an implantable contact lens) and the Verisyse is a phakic intraocular lenses (P-IOL). A P-IOL is a "helper" artificial lens implanted inside the eye (in the anterior chamber), to reduce refractive error. P-IOLs are an alternative to conventional or wavefront Lasik, All-Laser Lasik, PRK, LASEK, and Epi-Lasik for patients with very high myopic (-15 D or more) (nearsighted-shortsighted) vision. badeyes17 09-19-2007, 06:09 PM Based my own personal experience and research, I would advise that if the highly myopic can remain corrected in glasses and contacts, this is the wiser choice with much less risk of complications and visual aberrations. |
