View Full Version : vision problems destroying my life

I'm 21 and had this problem for 6 years (exactly same time as ME/CFS suspected)

I've heard of ppl describe a light sensitivity and visual disturbances...

but has any one experienced the following?

When i was at school and in a room without windows and fluorescent tube light - i'd be in there for a few seconds
and then the light would start to fade quickly to BLACK - as if i was about to faint(but i'd remain conscious)
Everything would be a 'buzzing' black tone
and i'd have high-pitch tinnitus in my ears.
This really freaked me out the 1st few times it happened. After a while it would be happening in every lesson and the 'blackness' would last all lesson.

It would make me feel really strange and 'freaked out' and would make me be really stupid as i couldn't think properly - wouldn't be able to read sentences AND understand them - or write sentences AND comprehend meaning - i couldn't do more than one thing at a time.

So i'd go in a room normal and once in the lit room - would go under a dramatic transformation!

It would give me headaches and led to 6months of constant 'blackness' and i was housebound. This happened on 3 separate occasions.

Any one got any answers? Maybe i haven't got ME but something else? (other problems include aching muscles/joints; high testosterone and LH levels - thus suspected PCOS (because skip ev other period; irratic brain pattern which puzzles my neurologist (epilepsy ruled out))

Does any one else find light does this to them?

Now i find the light is constantly blurred - light coloured blurs of light - this has been constant in one form or another since Jan - v distressing (but not as bad as the 'black' light - will i have to avoid flourescent light for ever?!)

so light has had a major effect on my life for 6years - whenever a light is turned on ... and now my vision is affected even in natural light (although to a lesser extent)

Do you get this???
btw i find sunglasses only makes the light seem even worse!

thanx

This is the daughter. I have the problem too, but not to black but white. Everything gets distant and I cannot think at all. Light has been getting more difficult lately, all light, but glasses seem to help. Maybe you should try some different colored lenses, mine are a smokey purple thing. Maybe also polarized or something, try going to the eye doctor trying a bunch and getting perscription sun glasses, thats what I have.
