Hi. I'm new here, though I've been reading threads for about a week or so.
A few years ago (2004) I took the MMPI when I was 14, as my tdoc thought I was bipolar. Anyways...I was pretty resistant to help at the time, so I don't really remember what, if anything, came out of that.
I recently went back to my tdoc after a 2 year absence, and she had me take the MMPI-2, which I won't get the results of until early next month. She mentioned that she wanted to do more testing, though (this being right before I started the test- so it's not based off the results).
I guess my question is, what kind of testing is there? For the vast majority of my first round of treatment (2002-late 2004) we just assumed I was Bipolar, and she said she didn't want to officially dx me because of my age (I refused meds, so I guess in reality, an official dx wouldn't have done me much good anyways!). We started back under the impression that it was Bipolar (though I'm starting to question that now, realizing I think I agreed to that as it was the closest thing that fit).
I think she still feels that it's probably Bipolar (even though she referred me to a pdoc who basically took one look at me and said I was just depressed, which I really don't agree with), so I assume she's mainly going to be testing with that in mind. Using that as a baseline of sorts?
So what kind of testing is out there, especially when pertaining to Bipolar? I guess I just wanted to get the chance to read up on what it is she's talking about, as I had no idea there was any other kind of test, aside from the MMPI stuff.
Any insight would be appreciated. What kind of tests have you guys done/were the results helpful? I'm pretty nervous about getting my MMPI results back...I started getting really frustrated towards the end and kind of lost comprehension a bit...but I suppose that's to be expected on a 500+ question test!
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Sorry it was so long-winded.
