View Full Version : Frustrated! What could it be?

Hello
This is my first post to the fibromyalgia board. I am basically just so frustrated now that I need some help.

I sustained a work injury to my neck area about 2 months ago. I work with aggressive children and one of them pulled my hair and twisted my neck. I started getting bad muscle spasms and pain. The doctor diagnosed a strain/sprain and said it was like I got whiplash while my head was turned. A couple weeks later I started physical therapy.

By this time I had developed pain going down the neck and into the right arm about down to the elbow. Also, pain in the right shoulder all the way to under the shoulder blade. I am now out of physical therapy because worker's comp would not pay for it anymore after 5 weeks. I had an MRI, EMG, and Nerve conduction studies. All were normal except the MRI showed some straightening of the cervical spine which the doctor said is common with whiplash injuries.

I was supposed to start getting cervical injections, however, worker's comp is sending me to an orthopedic doctor for a second opinion.

The pain lasts all day and all night. Usually it is the right side , sometimes the left. Sometimes the pain even goes all the way down through the leg. I have also been getting pain in the rib area like right below my breasts that comes and goes, I almost thought it was a broken rib it hurt so bad. My neck feels like there are rocks under the skin and my muscles twitch constantly. The pain is always worse after I do something during the day (such as do dishes or fold laundry). After I do something it usually flares up real bad for about 2 or 3 days after. This really sucks because I am a single parent and there are things that I have to do. I also have been very extremely nauseous to the point that I try to make myself vomit hoping for some relief to the nausea.
I am on anaprox for pain and skelaxin and zanaflex for muscle relaxer.

Anyhow, Does anyone have any thoughts as to if this may be fibromyalgia or MPS? Or anything else. I am tired of the doctors acting like I am crazy but I do know that this is not normal and that I should not be having this pain.

Thank you in advance!

SOUNDS ALMOST EXACTLTY WHAT I HAVE. SAME EXACT SYMPTOMS EXCEPT FOR LEG PAIN. I HAD A WALK-IN FREEZER DOOR (200 LBS) COME OFF ITS HINGES AND BOUNCED OFF MY HEAD 3 TIMES ALMOST 2 YEARS AGO.TRYING TO GET THE OHIO INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION TO APPROVE FIBRO NOW, AS THIS IS WHAT I HAVE, I AM SURE. EVEN WORKERS COMP TOLD THEM THEY SHOULD APPROVE IT. I'VE BEEN TO EVERY KIND OF DOCTOR UNDER THE SUN AND THEY PRETTY MUCH SAY THEY CAN NOT DO ANYMORE FOR ME. I AM NOW ON 50MG DURAGESIC PATCH, VICODIN AND SKELAXIN. THE COMBO SEEMS TO HELP MORE THEN ANYTHING. I'D SAY YES...THIS IS WHAT YOU HAVE. GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON.

Hi Marti K. I am so glad you are still going with the
duragesic patch. Aren't you up from last week? I thought you were on 25 mg. It is such a help with me and with the Methadone. I am really upset about my appt with my pain doc. This is the first time I will see her since my mri on my cervical spine. You know all the fearsl What if the numbness in arms and hands are not in my body but my head. I am reall scared for this appt. The doctors are all getting the letters from SSD last week and this week. I can't talk anymore. All I have been doing today is crying. No longer any self esteem. I'll talk to you again. I hope you will all feel better soon. Please pray for me, as I always keep you all in mine. Oma

DEAREST OMA,
I AM SORRY YOU ARE FEELING SO BAD. PLEASE DON'T CRY ANYMORE. SOME IS GOOD FOR RELEASE, BUT TRY TO STOP NOW FOR A WHILE AND REST YOUR BODY. THEY ONLY FOUND A SLIGHT DISC HERNIATION IN MY NECK (INOPERABLE) AND THEY DON'T THINK ALL THIS PAIN IS IN MY HEAD. WELL IT IS, BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. YOUR APPT. WILL BE OVER BEFORE YOU KNOW IT AND IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A PINCHED NERVE TO ME...THE NUMBNESS. MY FACE GOES NUMB ALL THE TIME. MY WHOLE LIFE HAS CHANGED TOO. I USE TO EXERCISE 3 TIMES A WEEK FOR 10 YRS. AT A GYM AND HAD LOST 110 LBS. WELL I HAVE GAINED MOST OF IT BACK BECAUSE OF LACK OF EXERCISE AND CAN'T DO ANYTHING I USE TO. ARE YOU ABLE TO GO SEE A MENTAL WELL BEING THERAPIST?? I DO AND IT HELPS ALOT. I WAS SUICIDAL TILL THE ZOLOFT, THERAPIST AND DURAGESIC (BEEN ON 50 MG. FOR AWHILE, BUT KNOWING MY BRAIN THESE DAYS I MIGHT HAVE SAID 25MG. ??!!). BEEN BATTLING ALSO WITH DOCTORS FOR 2 YRS. BUT HAVE FINALLY GOT ME MORE STABLIZED. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW APPT. COMES OUT. I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU AND THINKING OF YOU ALL DAY!!!
BEST OF THE BESTEST LUCK THAT THEY FIND YOUR PROBLEM AND CAN FIX IT. BYE FOR NOW.

Hi Everyone -

I have read your messages and find I am probably not crazy after all. I have started having tingling and numbness in my legs and to a less degree, my arms. I thought it might be my neck as I had trouble several years ago in a wreck but my dr. did an X-Ray and MRI and found only severe athritis as it is hard to turn my neck. The last two nights, my thighs burned like fire. All of these symptoms happen only at night and to a very small degree sometimes in the day. I read one post where they were told maybe it had to do with how you slept which could be but it is pretty severe for that. I wondered if I had more Spinal stenosis as I had surgery in my lower back for this several years ago but it has never seemed to be because of that as I did very well with the surgery. Are these definitely symptoms that you all have that is fm? My doctor offers no explanation or treatment except sleeping pills which I dont want to take if I can help it. Sometimes tho I don't sleep hardly any at night. Sometimes different pillows or stacks of pillows help temproarily.Does anyone else have this problem or use this to solve it?

HI EMORGAN...
SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED TO FIND A NEW DOCTOR...MAYBE A RHEUMATOLOGIST WHO HAS HAD EXPERIENCE WITH FIBRO? I PERSONALLY DON'T HAVE LEG PROBLEMS. IF I WERE YOU I WOULD GO INTO SOME FIBRO RESEARCH SITES AND LOOK AROUND. THAT'S WHAT I DID AND IT MADE ME REALIZE THAT THAT WAS WHAT I HAD.
GOOD LUCK AND FEEL BETTER!! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/heart.gif

sounds like you have slight herniation in your next pinching a nerve. I have two small ones with those same symptoms and am off work due to work injury. It shoots down to the back of your elbow like quick fire hugh? Have your doctor do an MRI for you. My husband is typing this for me... Good Luck. Go to a Chiropractor you neck might need to be adjusted back from when that boy pulled it out. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bouncing.gif
