I went back to the ENT today after a week on steroids and a MRI. It appears that it helped the fluid in my ears but I still have the constant pooping in my ears. The MRI showed no pus or polyps but my septum is deviated. He also said that I had Eustachian tube dysfunction So he has decided to try me on 2 more meds - veramyst and clarinex (been there, done that one, absolutely no help). I am apprehensive about meds, I do not like to take meds on a regular basis. From what I can tell if these help then I will be on them forever and ever. If they do not work then I am looking at surgery. Dr. said that relief should come in a week, I will give it a month and if not I want surgery!!! I have not been able to lay flat for a week and a half due to pain and pressure in sinus area and ear. I am miserable!!!

Why can they not find a medicine to work? I have been battling this for 6 solid months and on and off it seems like forever!!! I just want to feel better. Anyone have any experience with Versmyst, surgery, Eustachian tube dysfunction?

I posted my last and hopefully final surgery summary on the last post. I have had chronic sinus issues since birth (was on antibiotics 9 months out of the year for sinus/ear infections). I have lived on allergy meds and decongestants for 31 of 32 years of my life. This is what I had to do so that my sinuses finally drained and ear fluid retention finally stopped.

Removed 50% of sinus membranes in frontal and maxillary sinuses.
Punched windows in the Maxillary and frontal sinus cavites for drainage.
Punched windows into the ethnoid sinus cavity from the frontal sinuses.. erradicated all ethnoid membranes.
Punched windows through the ethnoid into the rear sinuses.. erradicated all sinus membranes.

Sinus passages were widened and adenoids and tonsils removed. The only thing that was omitted was the UPPP because my insurance company didn't deem it medically necessary. Well I still have sleep apnea, guess the UPPP would have been a good idea after all.

Best allergy medication for me:
Zyrtec. It should be going generic soon. Claritin and its newest derivative clarinex.. just don't cut it when it comes to vasomotor rhinitis or pollutant based allergic responses.

Versmyst? Never used it or heard of it. It also doesn't show up in my FDA approved pharmological database.

Nasal sprays that worked for me and mine: RXN's Nasonex and Astelin with OTC Simply Saline nasal rinses and Ponaris nasal oil application.

Don't know if this will help you, but it has helped me. Off daily decongestants, singular, and nasonex. Still need my allergy meds Zyrtec. Now all I need is Ponaris nasal oil at night before bed. This is it for my sinuses.

Sincerely,
MG

Thanks for the info. The veramyst has only been out 2 weeks according to the ENT. It is a steroid nasal spray. I am so frustrated with feeling bad. I live in Kentucky and the weather is so crazy that it doesn't help with all the weather changes. I figure that I will give it 3 weeks to see about the meds. I also have been taking 800 mg of ibuprofen so I have to go off of it for 2 weeks before surgery because of it thinning the blood so much.

Be honest, how bad was the pain after the surgery. They are talking about cleaning out my sinus cavities, adding a couple more holes, and ear tubes. I can not take pain pills after the first day of surgery because they become septic in my system and I get REALLY sick. Ibuprofen is it for pain. Also how bad was the bruising and the packing. I am a social worker with adults and children with mental retardation and worry about the bruises after I go back to work.

Sorry for all the questions I just like to be well informed and my doctor is well known for being good at what he does and having no bedside manner.

I had no bruising or packing. The dark circles under my eyes really didn't change in color. Well Dr. St. Charles in Chattanooga, TN is top notch. He has patients come form four states for them to work on thier children. He performed my surgery and my 3.5 year old son's surgery. I would let him drill holes in my head any time he felt necessary. He also is personable and has a good bedside manner. Being a children's surgeon I think that is a requirement.

Good luck,
MG
