I'm in the Shreveport area, and there is a Dr at LSU Medical Center that has been doing FM research and has even come up with a new med for treatment. It's an existing medication for a different use that works on a certain chemical in the brain to reduce pain. Anyway, his name is Dr, Patrick Wood and he's opening a FM Clinic in August 2 afternoons a week. I also recieved help from Dr. James Patterson II who is a phycharist and was treating my depression . He has recommended some alternative treatment in addition to conventional medicine. Omega 3 fatty acids being one. He recommended it to boost my antidepressant, but it turned out to help my fibro as well. Also Dr. Volden in Family Practice clinic at LSU has been helpful as well.
It'll be just your luck that you live in Shreveport.

Melissa,
I think that you might like my doctor. He is fantastic! I have FM/CMPS/CFS and a few oher things that go along with these disorders. I see Dr. Robert Fortier-Bensen. He has a clinic in Mandeville,LA and one in Gulfport, MS. I see him in his Gulfport office. Dr. Bensen uses several different modalities in treating my FM et all. He uses meds, nutriton, and acccupuntue, accupressure, prolotherapy to name a few. He also has a nutritionist in his clinics.
It may take a month or more to get an appointment, but I guaruntee you that the wait is worth it. I have seen 2 other pain specialists who treat FM. Dr. Bensen takes his time with you every visit. He is very compassionate and extremely thorough.
He does require a referral from your doctor.
I hope that this helps.
btw, I am a newbie to this group. I have been lurking a bit and have found that there is a great deal of very useful info here. and also I can see the support from the members here.
I am fighting a double whammy. I am newly dx''d with Hep C. so along with
dealing with fibro, I am waging a war with the Dragon. and Dr. Bensen has been very supportive of me with this new dx.
Good luck.
Blessed be!
