Have decided to give the toilet training another go, we gave a up a few months ago because Karim was just not ready. He will be four in December.
Does anyone have ideas that were successful for them? And can parents of older kids tell me how old their child was when they were successful at toilet training? It is just a whole other ball game to when my older daughter was toilet trained and am a bit lost as to how to go about it. And has anyone found any one particular aide that helped them? Karim cannot stand independantly. And needs assistance to get on the toilet.

Well my son doesn't have a disability and we are still working on pooping and he is 4. They do it when they are ready . Boys do take alot longer to train. So try not to stress. I would give it a try see how he reacts if not take another break. He successfully peed standing up at about 3.5 and hopefully in the next few months he will be fully trained.

Noah was not interested in potty training. Finally used jelly bellies as an incentive. That helped some. Took him about 8 months of taking him to the potty at certain times before he finally started saying he needed to go. Still won't poop in the potty. He's 4 1/2 year old. We're not pushing him. His constipation seems to be what makes him want to use a diaper. Dr. put him on Miralax, plus we're using homeopathy, and both are helping him to be more regular. Since early summer, we've been working on getting him to pull his pants down and up at the potty. So as you can see, we've kind of taken one thing at a time and spread it all out over a long period of time. Hope this helps!

My non disabled nephew was not completely toilet trained until after 4 years old also. My nieces however were trained at 2 1/2 and 3. I'm not a mother but I lived with my sister when my nephew was potty training and was just as involved. My niece however did decide one day that she was going to "wer undies" when she was staying with me for a week while my sister was out of town I still remember the phoning my sister... "She's requesting UNDIES?!!" And my sister was, like "You have to do it if she's ready and wants to!" and I sent her back to my sister without diapers (and she is a tiny girl, to the point that she had to tell me when so I could lift her up to the toilet!) It really is all up to them and they have to want to do it.
Can your son express interest in the idea? What about a book or a video?
Good luck to you!
