I have been on Elavil for 6 years to treat my fibro and it has worked very well for me. However, I was recently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and my endocrinologist had me stop taking the elavil. She gave me a schedule to wean myself off and put me on Levoxyl to treat my thyroid. I think that I am having withdrawl issues from the elavil. I can't sleep, aching all over, nauseous, lightheaded. Has anyone had this experience?

I took Elavil from 1990-1996. I visited a Pain Management Doctor in 96 & dx was High Blood Pressure and High Heart Rate.

She took me off the Elavil and put me on Pamelor (very similar). I took the Pamelor from 96 until about 3 to 4 weeks ago when I began having severe left hip pain & pain in the calves of my legs. My Doc of 28 yrs ago switched me to Ambien; however, he did recommend that I slowly taper off of the Pamelor.

I would suggest you call your Thyroid Doctor and see if Ambien is a possibility. I really like it. I dont wake up feeling drugged.

Good Luck!

Another sleeping aid is Remeron. It is dosed in 30mg
but to sleep take only 1/4 of a tablet. I sleep deeply through the night. I have not had success with Ambien--its effects wear off after 5 hrs and then I am awake. Of course everyone is different so you just have to try meds until one works for you.
