Hi. Let me start off by saying that after I had my daughter I dealt with a bout of PPD and began binge drinking. This lasted for several months. I also had/have health anxiety issues at times. Several months ago I developed episodes of mild to severe pain in my right side just below the rib cage. I had the spectrum of tests. Liver was perfect, GB function wasn't great but not bad enough for surgery per those docs, and I was given a diagnoses of IBS. The pain still comes and goes, though I haven't had any bouts as severe as I did when I was drinking (I am no longer drinking like that) so I assumed it was effects of the alcohol on my bowels causing the problem. I still can't get the fear of my liver being the culprit out of my head.

Fast forward. I came down with a horrible sinus infection and was put on augmentin a couple of weeks ago. I developed terrible diarrhea after a couple days and was told to stop the antibiotic. With the side effects I had bad cramps and some bloody stool, which I was told could be a case of the AB induced colitis. As soon as I stopped the AB I got sick again, and the bowel issues continued. The pain ended up getting so bad I begged for pain meds. I wanted someone to chop my head off. My head hurt from the base of my skull to the top of my head, my whole face, my ears, my teeth, my jaws... you get the picture.

Since we have just moved to a new area, the doctor wouldn't give me anything besides Vicodin 5/500, though I told him I had built up a tolerance for hydrocodone due to off and on treatment of a herniated L4-5 disk and sciatica that I have had for 4 years now. So, yes, idiotic of me, I have been taking more than prescribed to get rid of the headache. Now I'm on a different AB which seems to be working, but the same area on my right side is bothering me again.

M anxiety is kicking up and I am kicking myself because I know better than OD'ing on acet, but I was desperate. I'm scared to death that I've ruined my liver. It's tested fine before, and I did have a lot of cramping and pain with the Augmentin induced colitis (which hasn't fully resolved yet). I guess I'm just looking for any input. Thanks a lot.

I was probably taking 7-8,000 mgs a day of acet for 4 days. Today I am feeling much better because the new antibiotic is kicking in. I haven't taken any Vicodin today and I didn't have the right side pain at all until right before my first bowel movement of the day. (The diarrhea is finally gone) and then for about an hour or so after that. Then it went away again.

So, I'm thinking the pain yesterday was from the colitis from the Augmentin. It was very intermittent and more crampy than anything. When I laid down last and concentrated on the pain, I could tell that every time I felt it, stuff was moving in my bowels. No more OD'ing for me!!! Thanks for your reply.
