I got approval from my insurance today. They're going to buy me a Paradigm RT w/ Sensor at 100% and 3 months of sensors! Everything is backordered now, but I'm psyched none the less.

blondy2061h 09-12-2007, 07:35 PM I got approval from my insurance today. They're going to buy me a Paradigm RT w/ Sensor at 100% and 3 months of sensors! Everything is backordered now, but I'm psyched none the less. Coravh 09-12-2007, 10:07 PM Yippee!! Yahoo!!! Hurray!!!!! Congrats. Cora SamQKitty 09-12-2007, 11:20 PM Wow, Blondy...CONGRATULATIONS!!! Getting your insurance to pay for the sensor and supplies is a real coup. Ruth rickst29 09-13-2007, 05:50 PM My insurance is gonna fight, and fight, and fight... and then pay only 80% after a huge deductible. AND, their "annual limit" will barely cover Sensors, much less than 80% of a modern $5000+ pump. congrats on having REAL, GOOD insurance coverage come through for you! :D sharon1030 09-14-2007, 08:39 PM Hi, That's GREAT news! Will they cover the sensors after you use up the three month's worth? How did you go about trying to get them to cover, if you don't mind my asking? Anyway, congrats again. I can't wait to hear how you like it when you get it. Sharon :) blondy2061h 09-14-2007, 11:23 PM Hey Sharon- After 3 months I either need to appeal again, or pay out of pocket. I graduate college this May, so I'll be on my own insurance after then. My other option is to just stretch the 30 (or 40- I'm not sure if insurance is counting the ones that come with it) until May and then try the new insurance. I had to go through a process that took about 2 months. I have some hypoglycemia unwareness, so my doctor wrote a letter regarding that. I also have gastroparesis. The combination makes lows hard to sense, and makes them take a long time to come up once I start treating them. As a result, I've had some serious lows. I've been to the ER twice with lows in 2007, both as a result of being unable to treat them orally because of vomiting and being more willing to go because of the need for IV hydration anyways. The gastroparesis can also be viewed as a complication (though I don't think it was in my case, it keeps ending up on my chart as such). Regardless of the cause, it requires tight control to prevent worsening. I live on campus on college, kinda resulting in not too many people caring if I go low (though I do have good friends at school, I don't have a parent or husband checking on me at night). Using all this they wrote a letter of medical necessity. My endo and my CDE both did, and my GI would have if I asked. Then they asked for logs, so I gave them a month's worth of blood sugar logs, showing daily lows, and enough highs. They also asked for notes about my hospitalizations. Then it was approved! sharon1030 09-15-2007, 07:20 PM Hi blondy, That's great. I can't wait to hear how you like it. I totally get your willingness to get yourself to the ER for hydration. I was sick this past winter (the stomach virus that seemed to affect EVERYONE??). I finally agreed to go to the ER and was glad I did. It seemed like as soon as they put the IV in, I felt 100 times better. That's great about this being your last year of school. You're in nursing school, right? I know you live in NY. Are you originally from Upstate and go to school there? Either way, congrats. That's great. I was in nursing school for a year, but because of other health circumstances (not T1 related), I had to stop....I'm very interested in the medical field. Good luck and congratulations! Sharon :) blondy2061h 09-15-2007, 08:39 PM Yep, I live and go to school in upstate NY, and yep, I'm in nursing school. You stalking me? ;) Yeah...I agree, IV hydration makes a world of difference. sharon1030 09-16-2007, 07:50 PM Just a good memory :). You mentioned it once and I remembered. Sharon :) |
