I just went for a follow-up this morning. It's been 2 weeks since I had the Lasik surgery. I'm using the lubricating drops every 15-20 minutes due to severe dry eye. The doctor gave me an RX for Restasis. He said he will take at least a month to notice a difference. It's pretty expensive ($48 for a 1 month supply w/ insurance). I'm just wondering if anyone has used it and is it worth the money.

HI, I was put on Restasis for three months following my lasik operation in April. I did not have dry eye before, I didn't really notice a different. I am 5 months post-op, I still use drops several times a day.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I guess I'll just wait and see if how it feels after a month. If it's no better by my next follow-up, I may ask to have my tear ducts plugged. From what I've heard, more people have had better results from that than with the Restasis.

I have been using Restasis for almost 1 year. I had Lasik done in the beginning of July. I was on it to help with mild dry eye and then continued after Lasik. I have had no dry eye problems from Lasik...not sure if its the Restasis or not, but it does seem to help. The one thing I will say is it takes more like 6-8 weeks to see an impact. So don't be dissapointed if it doesnt seem to help right away. Also I have found that it actually makes my eye feel dryer the first 30 mins or so after putting it in. Funny for something that is suppose to treat dry eye. Anyway give it a shot...I would also use Theratears Omega 3 supplements.

Yes, I have noticed a little dryness, burning actually, for a short while after using the drops. I had read that it is one of the possible side affects though. I am only using the drops in my right eye since it is much worse than my left. I am also re-using the vial to make it last longer. I know you're not supposed to but I just can't afford an extra $50/month for these drops, especially when it's recommended to use them for at least 6 months! I have noticed an improvement already although I'm not sure if it is related to the drops or to the natural healing process so we'll see how it goes.

My eye doc gave me this med as well AND he gave me this great little plastic device made by the company to get more uses out of each vial. When you open a vial you can't put the top back on, so you place the vial in this plastic holder and cover with a glass. That way it lasts 24 hours instead of 1 use. It was recommended by the eye clinic but they said do not go over 36 hours for one vial. Call you doc/pharmacist and ask about it.

I had Lasik done last November and was put on Restasis about two weeks later. Like another poster said, it takes 6-8 weeks for it to really start to work, but it definitely has helped me. I don't have dry eye very much anymore, I use Restasis once a day in the morning (used it twice a day for about 8 months) and then I use regular eye drops once or twice a day if at all. I think it worked well for me so I would recommend it. I also use the plastic device to stand it up in so I could reuse it, only I don't cover it with anything but I don't let the tip touch anything. If it does I throw it out. I would keep using it if your doctor recommended it because it has made my eyes a lot more comfortable and hopefully will for you too.
