Hello,

I have never posted here, but I am glad I found a board where I could ask some questions.

My 19 month old son has been having recurring fevers of 102-104 once a month for 3 months. He has no other signs of illness - no cough, ears are good, throat good, no runny nose, etc. No UTI, they tested for that too. Strangely, the fevers have all been exactly 28 days apart. The Dr's are perplexed. Next step is CBC but his ped is still thinking he could just be catching a different virus every week.

Could this be an early sign of cancer?

He also had a chronic cough for 4 mos but that is gone now. He did have a chest xray when he was having hte cough that came back 'unremarkable'. Should i consider that a good sign as far as cancer is concerned?

THANKS so much!
Melissa

Your son's cough and fever may be caused by something as minor as allergies and/or sinuses. There are many more symptoms for the presentation of leukemias. If the fevers persist, or more symptoms appear, I would push for more involved testing for a number of different things.

The reason why fever is listed under symptoms for leukemia, is that once the disease has packed the bone marrow, the marrow's ability to produce "good" cells is limited. Thus causing the opportunity for infections to take over, as the body does not have it's defenses to battle them.

Continue to use your "mommy radar".
