I'm a health freak and eat a very strict diet. My recent obsession is with oatmeal, I eat between 2 and 3 cups a day (usually 2 cups). I eat about 1300-1400 cals/day, so this accounts for about 1/3 of my total calorie intake. Does anyone know if there is anything wrong with this? Is this overboard? I'm 23, about 125 lbs, I work out most days of the week. It just seems that sometimes if I have close to 3 cups in a day that I gain weight. Any insight is welcome!!! Thanks!!!!:)

I don't think this is too much of an issue considering that you work out most days of the week. 1300-1400 calories/day doesn't seem like very much to me though if you are working out that frequently. As long as you are making sure you are getting your servings of veggies and protein I think you should be in good shape. [removed]

Thats what I think too.
I'm really just worried about the carbs. I eat 1-3 servings of cereal each day too, but it's only bran flakes. I didn't know if it was possible to overdo it on the fiber.
I've looked up Daily Cals Reqs online, and I find anywhere from 1900-2700 cals daily which seems INSANE to me. If I consume anything over 1500 cals it seems like too much. I'd like to know what/where anyone else has found the most accurate daily caloric needs info ??

I wouldn't worry about the carbs in oatmeal. I love the stuff...I eat a huge bowl of it for dinner at least once a week and I'm around the same weight as you
some things are high in carbs, so you eat a small amount of oatmeal, you get lots of carbs, where something elts takes alot to eat that and get the same amount.. they are all different.
I know how you feel about obsessing over a food. lol I did the oatmeal thing, haven't had it now for a long time. right now I have LOTS of yogurt with flax seed, since you need 25 to 30 grams of fiber a day, I try and get 1/3 of my daily fibre in breakfast. everything has some fibre in it, so I hope I make healthy choices for lunch snack and dinner, to get the rest. but right now I jsut LOVE yogurt and flax seed, cant get enough of it, was eating it many times a day, but now I only eat it once a day, or once every 2 days, which is perfect, I'm not overdoing it, but getting it everyday which is what my body needs.
they also say breakfast is the best meal to eat alot of, so if you find you are eating 3 bowls of breakfast, there is nothing to worry about, because you burn it off just going to work, working out on top of that is even better. but if you were eating 3 bowls right before bed. might be a bad thing. lol

All that oatmeal consumption could be taking important nutrients out of your body, like calcium, and can be decreasing your bone density now or in the future, you don't want to end up with osteoporosis I hope you are drinkng lots of water with it so it doesn't bind you up, be careful.
