View Full Version : Doubts about HIV test results

I am a 30 something guy in the Philippines. I had unprotected sex with women I didn't know much, twice, around 1999 before I got married, and again in 2005. After the first time I contacted STD (I think I was told it was Gonorrhea) and was given a one-shot injection. Since then I've married and have had kids and I have never told my wife about it. And, as I mentioned already, also had unprotected sex last 2005. Lately I developed rashes which looked very similar to the picture of Kaposi's Sarcoma posted on the net (reddish/purple-ish). I was scared to death that I have HIV.

I went to a clinic here in Manila to be tested for HIV and other STDs. The doctor was alone in his clinic (twas a Sunday) and performed the HIV test himself. Came back a few minutes later and told me I was negative. I had other tests a few days after and was told that I had high "pus cell" count in my urine and sperms, and high bacteria count in my blood. I was given shots of Betamethasone for 3 days and shots of Cefuroxime for 5 days. The redness of the rashes went away but purple-ish scars remain. The doctor gave me some whitening cream for it.

Lately (just after completing my Cefuroxime shots), I have been feeling feverish and have some phlegm on my throat. I also feel like I am losing weight. My fear is that the doctor was not candid with me on my HIV test result. I was extemely tense and scared to death then and I would perfectly understand if he got scared telling me the real score. I have asked him several times about it and he has continuously said the test is accurate (even said its hundred percent). Still, I am scared to death that if I take a second confirmatory test it will turn out to be positive.

I would like to hear your insights please. I am going through this alone.

Did the doc do a cheek swab or blood test? If you last had unprotected sex in 2005 and you happened to be positive it would show up on a cheek swab or in a blood test. I don't believe a Dr. would hold that information from you. Here in the U.S. if a Dr. was not truthful he/she would not be able to practice anymore.
