Hello I just found this site i was actually looking for diet information and found the CP message board... my husband and i have custody of his 2 yrs old granddaughter.. weve had her since she was 2mths old... someone recently mentioned to me she may have a mild case of CP and i have since called the local early intervention and i am having her evaluated next week...
I know nothing about this ... all i know is what i have been reading here, but it seems like she behaves some of the ways mentioned here... she is very very smart.. she speaks well... the only problem we notice is her walking... she was a very later crawler... and didnt walk till almost a year and a half.. the ped. didnt think anything wrong with this we had her hips xrayed and did scans on them and nothing out of place there.. she is 25mths old now and her walking is very very stiff... very wide leged.. flat footed, she walks on the inside of her heals... she WILL NOT go down stairs she will scream till u pick her up .. she will only crawl up them .. she freaks out walking over door jams curbs any uneven ground.. she does not run .. she does not jump .. very stiff motions... the PT that saw her at a friend of mines said she looked to her as tho she had very low muscle tone in her legs...

I am assuming this very possibly could be CP?? I do not know what her mother did while she was pregnant .. i was there for her birth .. was a normal delevery not early no problems... i have no idea where this could have come from ? however she was taken from her mother because there was a threat of abuse but no physical evidence she followed thru.. now im wondering if maybe in that 2mth span she had her if she did do something to her???? shaken baby ?? dropped ??

If any one could give me some insite on this or if any of this sounds like CP i would greatly apperciate it ... as i am worried for her well being .. shes like my own kid and i want her to have a happy well adjusted life... thanks in advance ! Noel

In almost all cases people are born with cp. It is because of a brain injury but no-one knows why. Some theories suggest a lack of oxygen or an infection in utero. Premmie babies are at a higher risk for sure. It may not be anything the mother has done. I know I was very cautious during pregnancy, did all the right things but my son has cp. I know people who drank and smoked their way through their pregnancie and yet they have healthy kids. It is the luck of the draw... I still think I got dealt a pretty terrific one though!!!

Hello Noel, Welcome aboard. I have CP and I walk with crutches. My CP is kinda like she has with her legs. But I don't walk wide legged.

God bless,
Deborah

Hi Noel
It does sound like she may have cp. As the others haved said it doesn't mean that anything happened in the mothers pregnancy. She will have to have an mri to be sure. In my case my little girl got hers from being a premmie and her placenta not functioning well in the end of my pregnancy. I hope all goes well for your grandaughter.
