I have a question. I have been going and working out, swimming and walking and dowing well, I do this for about 10 days and than I just kind of die out, I have no energy for anything. at this time I could lay in bed all day. Can this be caused by high blood sugars, or am I on the wrong board and need to go to the depression one ? I hate feeling like this and don't know what to do about it. I do have a doc appointment next wk. Thanks for your help:confused:

Krichs.. Are you diabetic? Do you have any other symptoms such as going to the bathroom frequently or being very thirsty? High sugars can make you feel very tired and lethargic. If your sugars are very high and you exercise you can make them go even higher. Do you have a meter or know someone with one that could test you? Sorry I couldn't be of more help..

yes I am diabetic, man that was dumb to foget that bit of info. I amy type 2 have been for the last 12 yrs, control it with meds and diet plus exercising. I have another question. Why are we told to exercise if it makes our sugars go up, I know it helps mood and weight loss but why else.
My sugars have been up a little they took be off of avandia (sp) because it causes heart attack and strokes. Now I am on metformin 500 mg and take 4 at once in the morning. I have a doc's appointment next wed. so that will help I am sure. Two months ago for my labs all my numbers were ok.

There are a whole slew of reasons why this may be happening. First of all, how high is what you call "high"? It can cause you to go into a slump. Also, sometimes too much exercise will cause it as well. Your body does need a rest in between. I find for myself that I need at least one day off for every 4 - 5 days of intense exercise. Even one day off per week is not enough. On that day off I will go for a pleasant (and gentle) walk, but nothing strenuous. I find that way I am much more able to keep up with my heavier exercise program.

And while exercise can make your sugar go up temporarily, the benefits far outweight the initial upswing. You do know that you are not to exercise if you are above 250, right? This can cause dehydration and ketoacidosis. So you need to be careful.

Btw, welcome. And feel free to ask lots of questions. There are a lot of knowledgeable people here.

thank you for the info. My sugars have been running around 150 to 170. They were a lot lower before they took me off of the other pill, I can't remember the name of it. I wonder if the idea of taking off a day from working out is a good idea, i feel fine this morning, before I read your post I decided I must have just been tired, cause I am ready to go this morning

It's not exactly a "day off". It's a less strenuous day. But you have to do what works for you. And interspersing much lighter days in between works best for me.

Take care.
