I have been diagnosed as in the meopause and am having trouble sleeping, am waking several times a night but not associated with heat flashes and I am not worried about anything or anxious, is this a side effect of the menopause?

Can anybody confirm, or has anybody the same symptom?

Yes, that is a symptom. Are you on HRT?

Hi

No I am not on HRT I am only 46, and am concerned with the possible consequences of taking HRT.

I am thinking of seeing my GP again though because I work full time and am finding it extremely difficult, are you on HRT then? and if so how do you find it helps.

Thanks for replying, as my GP made me feel as though I was hiding other problems that were causing me not to sleep as I was not experiencing night sweats upon waking.

Yep menopause!...I have been on Premarin for 10 years. There are different kinds different dosages and your Gyn. Can help you with what is going on now AND what is yet to come. Every woman travels the menopause path in a different way and at different ages. Some women can't or refuse prescription meds opting for natural over the counter stuff. None of that stuff helped me. For sleep I use Benadryl.
If I were you I would read all the posts on this site and educate yourself.

Thanks Ann, I will do as you advise, and will certainly try Benadryl, I am very tired again this morning with a days work ahead of me.

I have been on HRT for 5 years....you couldn't pay me to get off it! I sleep, no night sweats, no craziness, no urination issues, etc. My doctor says as long as I come in for my check ups every year, I can stay on it as long as I want. I started out on FemHRT but my insurance changed so now I am on
Activella. My doctor also told me that whenever I go off it, I will have 1-3 years of menopausal symptoms. NO THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your message, it's very difficult to decide whether to accept HRT with all the bad press surrounding the subject, but along with your comments and many other positive comments on this site I am going to give it a try, I am looking forward to a night of unbroken sleep!!

Thanks again, you have helped.

cal3161,

I too have been on hrt for years (I'm post-menopausal). Your doctor can tell you if you fall into any of the high-risk groups who should not take hormones (high blood pressure, family history of heart problems, cancer, etc). As long as you do not have any of the risk factors, then it might be something to try. You do need to make sure that you get regular check-ups -- at least once a year. Hormone replacement therapy has made a world of difference for me. As long as my check-ups (every 6 months here in Germany) show that everything is ok, I will probably continue for a long time.

Good luck on finding a way to make your symptoms better. Hrt isn't for everyone, and others here can suggest other ways to get through this time of life.

HI Vicki

I too had a thyroid problem a couple of years before entering the menopause, mine was overactive and caused me to lose weight, palpitations, etc. I suggest you see your doctor to have your thyroid checked as well as sorting your menopause symptoms.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Happy New Year! I am new and have quite a few medical problems but need to find out what exactly the symptoms of menopause and post menopause are. I had surgery to remove everything 20 years ago and was on HRT up until last year when the doctor took me off because it interfered with my thyroid medication uptake. A few years ago I started to get a real hot sensation on my feet, felt like a really bad sunburn and then it would get cold like I jumped into an icy shower. Over the years it moved up my body and this year finally took over my torso. It is really painful. This happens many times a day and night. I have taken my temperature when I get hot to see if I am hot inside as well as outside, but so far, no temperature accompanies these events. Is this something that goes along with menopause/postmenopause? I forgot to mention that I am 63 so I am thinking I should be through with all this. I have talked to doctors but they just say shake their heads and walk away and never address the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Once you go off HRT, you will experience menopausal symptoms for the next 1-3 years. The HRT has kept your body from doing this so when you stop the HRT, the body picks up where it left off. Surprised your gyno didn't tell you that when you discussed going off.
