View Full Version : Esophagitis?

Is there anyone with esophagitis? I wonder what the real symptoms are? (I did a lot of research but as usual the symptoms fit all ather GI disorders).

I was diagnosed with mild esophagitis (small erosion) a while ago and got a hiatal hernia as well. However they didn't suggest any treatment for that.

My main symptoms now are almost constatnt pressure/dull pain in my chest which is stronger after eating. However sometimes it goes away with the first bit I swallow (solids or drink). Sometimes if it's not here it comes back when I swallow something. Sometimes comes out of nowhere. Usually gone in the morning and comes back any time of the day. But i DO NOT experience any burning or acid reflux. I know it's definitely gastric related (not heart) but can't relate it to anything I eat or do. Tried all sorts of medicines (all kinds of antacids, procinetics, probiotics, enzymes and everything else you can imagine - nothing works).

Another thing to mention is I had duodenal operation a few months ago. These symptoms were gone for about 10 days afterwards, then slowly came back. The reason I believe was no the operation, but the fact I wasn't eating or drinking for 5 days and the system was resting.

I have an appointment with GI doctor next month but don't expect much as I've seen them many times before. Had a few gastroscopies, 2 barium x-rays, CT scan, h.pylori test, all came back fine and they don't find nothing.

Anyone with similar problems? Any ideas what it is? Any advice will be vey helpful.

I think you should be on Nexium...maybe 20mg or even 40 should help with the esophagistis.

I have your same symptoms. The reason you do not feel the burn anymore is because your body got used to it. My GI explained that over time the acid wears away the esophagus and it becomes numb.

I have a constant pressure at the top of my chest right below my throat. It makes me feel like I can't breathe. I'm currently on 40mg of Nexium, 10ml of carafate 4X a day and 37.5 mg of Effexor.

I worry that this pressure will never go away and that my breathing will one day stop. However my GI has assured me this would not be the case.

Keep me posted and good luck!!!
