Its been 3 and a half weeks since my daughter had her tonnils out.
It was not very pleasent for her. She is now finally able to eat solid food, but unable to taste most of it. However her biggest concern now is ,when she swallows some liquids.(mostly water) it comes out her nose! Not all the time, but some of the time. It never happened before untill her Tonsillectomy.
During her recovery at home she went thru' extreme ear pain and a very painful throat.
Now the thing with the liquids, is this normal ?
Anyone else have this problem after Tonsillectomy?

this happened to me as well, and actually still does every so often. i had my tonsils taken out on august 16th, so yesterday was a month for me. it will get better for her and she will slowly get used to not having them back there to guide fluids down her throat. no worries!

Yes very normal. This is due to the uvula an pallet having to strengthen and cover the increased gap at the back of the throat when swallowing. It will take two to three months for the pallet and uvula to begin closing completely back there again. Until this occurs minimize eating and drinking in anything other than a vertical position. Water fountain, bent over at the waist, drinking will cause the water to come out their nose almost immedaitely every time. Make sure when they are swallowing their head is up right.

My son at 3.5 thought it was cool to shoot water out of his nose for a month or two. I had sinus surgery when I had my T&A. Water in the sinuses was not cool.. and quite painful instead. So yes. Keep saline salution handy, just incase something other than water gets ejected from the nose. Soup and stew.. not pleasant. Avoid all stomach illnesses like the plague. Vomiting is not desired at this time.. or any other time.

Sincerely,
MG

All of the same stuff happened to me after my tonsillectomy. It's all normal, as far as I know. The liquids coming out of the nose thing was the first thing that everyone told me would happen, and it did! She just has to try to drink a lot slower and eventually it will get better.

Same thing happened to me. I figured it was because my tonsils had been so huge and the amount of tissue removed, that I had to relearn how to swallow. Took it very slowly. Worst part was a business luncheon 3 weeks afterwards. I ate and drank like a turtle, but I didn't want to have water spurt out my nose :)
