When you obsess about something, and you have to do a certain compulsion to try to stop it, does it never work?

( because in ocd i think u always fear ull do something that u consider horrible).

something happens, like ill see a spec of dust in the air or hear a sound from someones backyard or my thumb cracks, probably due to the tension.

is this a sign ....? So then i have to do it again, and it never actually works. Anybody familiar with this?

I am not familiar with this but it def. sounds like OCD to me. You are distracted by something so you have to start the compulsion over...this is why people who have to keep washing their hands over and over again do...

I don't think it can work; that's jsut the nature of OCD: Giving in to a compulsion usually creates MORE anxiety.
I CAN relate to what you talk about. Soemtimes a thought even pops in my head like, "if i hear something special right at the count of three, this means that....." (whatever). I have to remind myself not to do this!;) I don't think the world works like this.
My faith helps.

Oh believe me, I can relate. That's the
problem with the "rituals". You can never seem to get it perfect so you must repeat it. Either because you got distracted, you messed it up, or you can't say 100% certain when you're finished that you did it correctly. So you must do it again. All this time the anxiety is wracking your body like a heavy weight boxer teeing off on your stomach like it's a heavy bag. Right?
