How do I know if I have lice? For the past week my head has been rediculously itchy. I've tried checking myself, but haven't found anything. Still, my head itches like crazy all the time unless I put rediculously hot water on it in the shower. Then it stops itching. Anyway, how can I tell what it is? Is there anything else that could make my head itch besides Lice? How would I know if it was lice? Also, do they just dissapear on their own?

If possible, have someone else check for you. You should be in a well lite area as this will make the lice easier to see.

Have you been around anyone that had lice within the past few weeks or could it possibly dandruuff or new hair products?

i haven't been around anyone with lice that i know of. i went to this overnight retreat place and slept on a bunkbed...but i brought all of my own bedding. the itching did start right after that though. i did get a new shampoo though. today i bought a moisturizing dandruff shampoo and am going to see if that helps. it was itching today but not as badly. any other ideas?

If your not sure and are really worried, you could do the following (I would do this if I was in your position becasue these things freak me out anyway):

Coat your hair with Real Mayo. Make sure all hair and scalp is covered with it. Put on a shower cap to contain the smell and any leakage. Leave on for 2 hours. When time is up, rinse your hair in the tub or sink, but make sure the stopper is in place. If you have lice, the mayo will smother them and they will rinse out of your hair. I no lice, then you now have soft bouncy hair.

If you do have lice, after rinsing apply white vinegar to damp hair, get in bright light and have someone start removing the nits (eggs). This is the hard part. The vinegar helps to loosen up the nits for more easy removal.

Hope this helps.
