Folks, I have noticed that on some occasions the automatic Omron BP monitor I have starts inflating, then stops for a second or two, and then resumes at a normal rate. Any idea why this happens and what it means? Batteries are fresh BTW.

Maybe if you move it could cause it to be interrupted. Just throwing it out there  Mine has never done that, though.

Just thought of something else. If you have cuff anxiety and your BP starts going up while the cuff is inflating, it may have been ready to stop and your BP went up so it needed to inflate more. Make any sense??

I don't know, but it was a decent reading so I'd hate to throw it out, esp. after a series of crappy ones!

Yeah, just keep it and see what happens next time. Anytime there's a good reading you surely don't want to throw it out :D . Now if you never get another reading like it, then it obviously was a malfunction, but let's not go there :) .

Hi,
Some Omrons will inflate to a certain number such as 158. If your blood pressure is 165 it will stop for a second and then start going up again higher maybe to 180 until it can read the pressure. It will tell you in the booklet that comes with it why it does that. It is normal on some of their machines.

This happened at the beginning around 31...long pause, then inflated to 171. Reading was 126/67. Usual inflation I get on mine is 160s-180s.

Try calling their 800 number and maybe they can tell you why it is happening.
I have very low pressure and sometimes the machine can't register it. I sent it back to the company one time to make sure it was calibrated right. They tested it and sent me the report and it was fine. The only time it did what yours is doing was when the batteries were running low and then it would go up to 18 or 20 and deflate back to 0.
