Hi guys

Please help me as I am in complete ruins. My stomach constantly makes noises. Usually, early in the morning prior to a bowel movement (I usually have my movement around 930AM) its at its peak. Just nonstop noises, vibrations and when the clock approaches 930AM, I have an urge to use the restroom.

Now the problem is that I'm in college, and this semester I have classes way before my 930AM movement. I'll get up at 630AM and will try with all my might to get my bowels moving but nothing will happen. Then, just as soon as I get to class at 830 (730 on fridays) I'll feel pressure on my stomach and the noises begin. The noises are SO embarrassing! I can't concentrate on my school work, I'm so embarrassed by the noises! I constantly try to cough and shift around in my seat but it doesn't help at all.

This problem has been going on for the last 8 months I would say. Also, my bowel habits don't seem normal. I'll have much thinner, stringy and watery stool. I haven't had the "normal" kind since early freshman year of college (i just started sophomore this year). I've also felt the need to belch a lot, very deeply.

Oh and also at night time its really bad....stomach keeps vibrating, making noises...makes it hard to sleep.

I've gone to the gerontologists twice and have been recommended Levbid and Zantac 150. I've been using them for a week, but to no luck!!

someone please help me! I was an honor student and my life was going great and now I'm actually considering dropping out of school because of this problem! And its so embarrassing I can't even discuss it with my parents! (I went to the gerontologists on my own and paid myself to avoid letting my parents know about this embarrassing situation)

You poor thing. I'm 51 years old but your story sounds exactly like what happened to me when I was in college in my early twenties. My stomach would start to rumble and grumble during my 10:00 a.m. class every single day. It was so loud that no amount of coughing or moving would control it. I would literally jam my fist into my stomach and lean over to try and quiet the noises. One day it was rumbling so loud someone thought they heard "thunder" off in the distance!! I would literally get up and march right out of class. Before my 10 am class I would go to the cafeteria and have something small to eat and a big glass of milk hoping the hunger rumbles wouldn't happen. It didn't help. One day I was complaining about this to a friend and she said, Kate, it sounds like you're lactose intolerant. I told her I had always eaten dairy (all through my childhood I was a big milk drinker) and never had a problem. She said, all you have to do is cut out dairy and see what happens. Well, surprisingly it worked. No more rumbling and grumbling. After a couple of weeks I didn't even think about it and had a big bowl of ice cream and it happened all over again along with horrible gas cramps. Now when I want something dairy I take a couple of lactaid pills and always use lactaid milk and I've been fine ever since. It's worth a try---good luck! Kate

Thanks so much for your reply! The thing is, I never have dairy products! I don't drink milk or anything and it still happens!

I have the exact same problem. Except for me the noises occur ALL the time. The noises start after I drink something hot, after I drink something cold, after i eat wheat, after I eat dairy, after I eat fruits, vegetables, candy, sandwhiches, salad, meat... absolutely EVERYTHING! Especially when I think about it I get a tight feeling in my stomach like a noise could happen any time.. The noises either sound like gurgling, groaning, popping and even squeeling. I know that the noises either come from my lower left or right abdomen, because if i lay down and put my hand on my lower left or right abdomen, i can feel it vibrating or gurgling.. And if i push down on the area it will also make the noise. I have come to no conclusion on what I can do to stop this embarassing problem but I'm glad there are people who can relate.

help wanted :(
