Hello
After numerous diagnosting and stuff, doctors told me i have a slow gall bladder. What they didn't say is what to do about it on the long run. :(
The doctors only gave me pills to help with the digestion but they said i should NOT take them too often or else my gall bladder will be even slower.
Isn't there something i can do about this ? It's a daily ordeal for me and at times it can be quite "crippling" at times ...
Plz help - Thank you in advance
P.S.: I did find a user (http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showpost.php?p=839553&postcount=2) who seems to have a problem similar to mine.

Typically, if the ejection rate is below 35%, they recommend removal of the gallbladder. Do you know what your rate was?

Removal of the bladder ? O_O
I heard of that test that measures the flow for the first time on this forum. None of the doctors that diagnosed me mentioned anything about such a test, yet they all seemed to come to the conclusion that it's because of a slow gall bladder.
But if they remove it entirely - won't digestion be incomplete (or at least inneficient) ? I mean, it just seems that by removing it you get rid of the little help it provided.
I'm no doctor to contest these kinds of things, but i'm just wondering why ...
Thank you for the reply tho :)

What tests did they run? The only test for the function of the gb is the HIDA Scan. It measures your ejection rate. Anything below 35% is considered abnormal. And yes they remove them all the time. They leave a duct that slowly takes over the function of the gb. You must eat very low fat after the removal until the duct has started working properly...usually about a month.
I had mine removed over 2 years ago and all is well.

Well ... they ran a lot of blood&urine&feces tests everytime it went really ugly (vomiting for days in a row and stuff). Echographies too.
All those that made the echographies said that because in everyone of them there wasn't really anything wrong it's probably a slow gall bladder. Same with the generalist and specialist doctors that consulted me.
I guess they diagnosed me because all the tests were fine even tho i was vomiting my guts out continously. The funny thing is each doctor got to the same conclusion on their own.
But yea, the daily symptoms sure fit with those of a slow gall bladder.
What's strange about all this is that it might have it's slow moments. For example yesterday i ate lots of meatballs/mayonaise/peanutbutter (not combined) that should've killed it. :jester: But i felt fine all day. On other days i start feeling very nauseaous when i take only one bite of an apple or a spoon of peanut butter or a sip of milk and i stop. It's the randomness of it all that's bugging me. :(

If your gallbladder isn't functioning and you are sick they are going to want to take it out eventually. What pills did they give you to help digestion? I've never heard of one that will make you gallbladder function slower.

There is a study that indicates that proton pump inhibitors (PPI's) like Prilosec will slow down gallbladder motility (movement).
A fairly common symptom with gallbladder problems is diarrhea, so then a PPI is prescribed, which ironically can make the situation worse.

Yes.there is something are some things you can do.First have a sonogram on your gallbaldder to detemine,if why, it is slowed.Second you can opt in to have your gallbladder removed.I had mine taken out.It was slow for a couple of years before I finally had a galllbaldder attack. It felt like I was being stabbed from the inside out.I couldn't even move and my husband had to call an ambulance. When I first had it taken out I had loose stools for the first 3-4 months which is normal, but after that everything went back to normal.I feel fine and I'm finally able t eat the foods I like again without stomach upset or heartburn,or fatigue and I enjoy life again!Even if you don't have gallstones maybe you should consider having it taken out since it is so draining on you and I bet if you asked your doctor what the chances are that you will eventually have to get it taken out anyway he would say" a very good chance",since slow gallbladders are known for causing gallstones and since most doctors don't like to use the medications used for dissolving gallstones anymore because gallstones tend to come back.So why let it drain you now.

They do not slow the gallbladder directly - they slow it (and the secretion of stomach acid) through a feed-back mechanism. If i take those pills at almost every meal, the body will realise that there is no need to secret more stuff for digestion because the food gets digested by the pill. It will think it is no longer necesary to secret normal amounts.
An addiction. You know, like if you use pills everyday to poop, when you stop taking them it'll be really bad.
Oh and i don't know what the pills i take are called in english.

I might do that sonogram ...
Yea, my parents had to call the ambulance last time too. The last few times the vomiting per 10 minutes stoped after a few hours - this time it didn't ...

I dunno - maybe in the future ... when i'll have more money, i might do this operation.

No, i've never done that. Maybe because i'm a bit scared of the whole procedure ... but also because none of the doctors suggested it.
I hope your son will be cured soon.
