I was diagnosed with FMS over a year ago. I am up and down like a lot of people. In the past six months or so I have had shaking in my hands that scares me. I appear like I have Parkinsens. I also have major spasms in different parts of my body mostly when I lay down. The doctor has ran tons of tests. He has found nothing other than the FMS and osteoarthritis. Is it common to have these shakes and spasms? What do people do to deal with them? Thanks for any help

hi...i also have the shakes and spasams....plus the overall extreme body pain. That is why i am reading on this site. Drs in this area are tough to get to diag. Fobromyalgia. From all i have studied on the internet i do have it. I am diagnoised with Dystonia, and Ataxia which are things thatt i never knew existed in my fify years. I am on Zanaflex for the constant spasams. The shakes ease up when my muscles are more relaxed..most of the time. My Neuro. talked like i could have Multiple Sclerosis. But, the MRI was negative of lesions so far. Somtimes that takes years before they show up. In the meantime I studied up on the Dystonia...many people have it. It has those Parkinson symptoms also. These illnesses are so simlar in many ways. I wish i knew exactly what i have. But, am learninng to be happy with just...medication to relieve the symptoms to get through life. Oh, yeah, I have siezures too. In 1998 After a car wreck i just kept getting worse and worse with everything. I read accidents trigger hidden problems and bring them to the surface. I probably sould not be writeing on here , but am up again with the whole body pain. I also, have the bad body spasams when i lay down ...like you said. The Neuro. said that is Dystonia. My Neuro. gave me Clonzapam that stopped it after years of it, fineally.Sweet Blessings i wish for you all. donna

I know exactly what you are talking about. I too have had shaking, trembling, and spasm's. I haven't found anything to help with them. When it happens all you can do is work through it. Before long it will not seem as such a big deal anymore. The fatique is the worst, that is until I get a pain that shoots through my legs that will at times take your breath away and make me sick to my stomach. Thats real pain there, huh? I hope you don't suffer with it that much.

Same thing here. Sometimes they are diagnosed as "?Myoclonical? Seizures." Try looking this up. A lot of friends I have w/ CFS have been having "conscious" seizures just recently. Part of it could be "Essential Tremor." Kind of a dumb name, but that's what they call it. Whenever I'm on a new medication I shake a lot. Are you on anti-convulsants? This might help. If they don't they say there is usually an underlying problem. It could be neurological.

The spasms seemed to have subsided fairly much. I am not on any anti-convulsants. just about everything else. I have found when I am extremely tired I seem to get them frequently.

I tend to have the shakes and tremors as well at times. I have fibro and cfs, my doctor told me sometimes they are caused by lack of calcium in the body. She put me on calcium plus magnesium and after taking that for about 3-4 weeks I noticed a huge improvement. IF I stop taking it tho, like I did this last month, (ran out of them and haven't gone out to replace them), I notice the tremors and shakes start to come back, slowly at first, then a bit more every day. Hope this helps some.

I will definately try the calcium. I have to check on which type to use. I was told with certain medications some calciums dont mix. Have you heard of coral calcium. Some people swear by it. I checked it out. Very expensive.
