I just found this board yesterday after having been diagnosed approximately two months ago with diabetes. Unfortunately I had been walking around with elevated blood sugars for quite some time and was not aware of it. Anyway, I am feeling the signs of neuropathy (as read online). During the day I manage well but by the time early evening arrives, I am miserable and have a hard time standing or walking on my foot without a dull pain. Bedtime, well that is by far the worst time. I have been taking Ibuprofen 800mg at night but I have a feeling I am becoming immune to them as they are just not doing justice any longer. For the past two nights I have been miserable with foot aches, burning and tingling so bad I have been in tears. Top that off last night with my blood sugars bottoming out at 50 and my almost passing out at the top of our staircase as my husband came to my rescue and carried me back to bed with a glass of OJ.
Question is, what, if anything, can be done to ease the pain of the neuropathy? I am exhausted as I cannot sleep and if I do, I only manage about 4 hours before the alarm goes off in the AM. I do have an appt with a neurologist next Wednesday but I am in need of some sort of relief sooner then later.
TIA!!!
