View Full Version : Please help me - at my wits end!

I posted awhile back about black stools.

Well since then, I was placed in the hospital and had an upper EGD done as well as an ultrasound. During the ultrasound, it hurt VERY VERY much in the area where my gallbladder would be if I had one.
The EGD showed gastritis.

Since then I haven't been able to work because I throw up several time a day but I usually have diarrhea 5-10 times a day. I can't even eat and having been sticking to things like plan oatmeal. Often I can't even eat but a bit before I get sick or have diarrhea.

I have had a horrible pain in my right side, under the breast bone. I have had a fever between 99 and 101. My whole body hurts and I am so tired.

The doctor I saw believes I may have some kind of virus. But I don't know, I feel like this is deeper than that. He also gave me cipro in case of any infection.

The past two days I threw up a little blood as well and I have been throwing up so much that I busted the blood vessels around my eyes.

I am supposed to see him Monday morning again. What questions can I ask? What can I suggest be done?
I feel like things haven't changed in four weeks and I am on the verge of losing my job. :(

Hi, Emerson -- so sorry you're going through this. I don't have any expertise to offer you as far as getting a diagnosis, but do be sure to tell your doctor EVERYTHING you've told us, especially the stress you're experiencing. You said you had the upper scoped -- perhaps a colonoscopy is needed to see if something's going on in the lower that's affecting the upper? Is your doctor a primary care or a GI doctor? Sounds like you need a GI specialist. Hope you get better soon. Let us know how you're doing.

Edited to add: remember to write everything down before you go into the office because sometimes doctors can make us feel rushed.

Also try to stay hydrated. And think positive, as trite as that sounds. You WILL figure out what's going on and get it treated, and you WILL feel better.

Have you had an abdominal/pelvic CT? I am sure they already ruled out your appendix. I completely understand how stressful this can be. I wish I could offer you some insight but I wish you luck.
