I was diagnosed in Sept. 06 with type 2. I was put on metformin and almost immediately lost 15 pounds. It literally melted off of me. I then continued to loose about 10 more pounds for a total of around 25 pounds. Then, it all stopped. My doctor was very pleased in the beginning with the weight coming off, but now, he is questioning why it has stopped. I tell him that I am not doing things any differently but I don't think he believes me. We discussed Byetta (sp?) as a weight loss tool. Has anyone out there lost a good amount of weight using Byetta? I would love to hear your comments.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am aware that Byetta is usually not covered by insurance and is expensive. But, I would be willing to foot the cost for a short period of time if - like you - it would help me jump start the weight loss again. It seems like the insurance companies would have to pay for it if it helps, not only the high sugar levels, but also part of the cause - being overweight.
Please post back and let me know how you do on it. I am really interested in trying it out for weight loss. Otherwise, I am doing fine on metformin and it is cheap. No side effects that I am aware of. When I started on metformin one year ago, I quickly lost about 15 pounds, then another 10 pounds. Then, it all stopped and I haven't lost anymore, so that is why I am thinking about Byetta. Please let me know how it works for you.

I have been on Byetta for 6 months and have lost 15 pounds. The only side affects I have had are occasionl cramps and nausea. Other wise my blood sugars that were averaging 150 and higher are now running 110 to 120.:)
