New to the board--
23/F/IL with JRA and Fibro symptoms

Hello all!
=-)
Was hoping you all could help me out... Just diagnosed with Fibro symptoms and was just curious what others are experiencing with their Fibro symptoms.

If you could list your symptoms, I'd appreciate it.

How much time do you have to read this? Just kidding.
I ache. I'm tired. Sleep is a foreign word without
medication. Don't touch me on the tender spots because
it hurts. I have irritable bowel syndrom==IBS. I'm
so moody without medication. My legs are restless.
It's all I can do to get thru a day. But let me add
that I have a wonderful husband who's understanding and
helpful. I am also sure that with every new day there
comes hope. I hope this has helped even a little bit.

Please forgive me for not mentioning the memory loss.
It's really terrible. I don't know the date or even
what day it is. This has cost me from driving a car.
No matter how many times I've been some place I can
either not find the way there or the way home or both.
I can't go to the grocery store or department stores.
I get so scared. If my husband is with me, I do manage. But that's it, I manage. Again, with every
new day there is hope.

:)

I tend to "burn", esp. in my hands and feet. And often feel either too hot or too cold. Hard to feel just comfortable. I find this odd. I easily get "shivers down my spine". When this happens at work, where the aircon is tooooo cold, I find it helps to go to the washroom for a nice warm blow under the hand-dryer. :D When I have a flare (like right now, sigh), I feel tired and achy all over and need to put pressure on my limbs (like even rest a big book on my hand or leg to counter the sensations) or move them to distract myself. I suspect I use exercise in escapist fashion as a form of distraction . But anyway, they say exercise is good for you? :round:

HUGs TO aLL :)

I don't beleive anyone mentioned that their sex life has pretty much flown out the window to. It suddenly becomes to painful and sensitive to try and you loose all interest eventually. (Makes it tough in a relationship)

Lets see.. Newly "diagnosed" less then a week ago.

I have terrible achiness in my shoulders, down my right arm to my elbow and wrist. My wrist Pops all the time. I haven't had a good night sleep since 1998. I just kept making up reasons since my Dr's couldn't find anything wrong. I am fortunate that FM hs not diabled me completly. When I get up inthe morning, my feet HURT and are stiff. My shoulders, arms, sometimes are stiff and my legs feel heavy. I have a hard time walking into work from my parking space because my legs just feel like they don't want to work. I can't stand the heat and humidity. The aircon in the car hurts my arms as I drive home. Lets see what else. I stutter when I'm extremely tired. My Bones have just recently started to ache too. Brain FOG and not being able to concentrate. Don't even try to have a long phone conversation with me. I can't focus enough to pay attention. I am sure there are more, but I have talked your ears off already. Good luck!!!

Hey HopeFLoats, Have you considered Faby disease as a diagnosis... My boss does studies with this disease and I know that burning hands and feet are one of the main symptoms. You should look it up and read about it. I would have to have some of your other symptoms, but that might be an option for you to look into.

I am new to the board but have been suffering from FM for about 6 years I would say. Here are some of my most chronic symptoms:

Terrible muscle pain in shoulders, shoulder blades, rhomboids, hips, and muscles along spinal column.

Abdominal pain

Sleep disorder. Never feel rested, no matter how much I sleep. Always wake up feeling like I was hit by a truck.

There have been many more over the years, including anxiety and IBS, but these are the ones that give me the most chronic problems. Heres hoping to one day feel better!

Hi kiera1200

Thanks for sharing. :) I did read up on Fabry's some time ago, but I didn't have some of the other symptoms associated with the disorder, so I kind of dismissed it after awhile. But you're really sharp and I appreciate the "tip"! :) Maybe I'll try to get tested for it if my after-sleep feet burning worsens. While I'm on this board, the people who swear by malic acid/magnesium, what's the dose you take and can one overdose? Thanks! Love, peace to all. :)

Wow seems a few of us have been newly diagnosed....
I was diagnosed Monday.... and wow don't know what to think...

Finally an answer to why I hurt all over.... but is it an answer I want to hear??

Have I gotten any help... no... I got a prescription for Vioxx... been there done that... kills my stomach and doesnt' help....

I have other health issues... intractable migraines and intractable epilepsy... which only aggrivate each other and this other set of symptoms...

Sleep and sex are both non existant... Except on occassions where I sleep like non stop.... I am in one of those phases now... I even fell asleep in burger king yesterday....

Anyway... list of symptoms.... hurt everywhere... ache all over.... if you think of a spot on your body... I hurt there too.... LOL

Well I have to run for now but will look through more posts... and prolly add more here later... have to go get a kiddo from school...

I was "officially" diagnosed 3 yrs. ago. after years of thinking I had rheumatoid arthritis (diagnosis 9 years before that). I have all the pressure points, pain all over, can't sleep from pain or sleep too much when my body finally gives out or I take medication, heavy fatigue, pain everywhere (don't touch me!), appetite problems, IBS, headaches (I call them "smashed face" 'cause that's how it feels), "fibro fog", irritability (ask my fiance!), depression 'cause I can't do what I used to be able to do, including things I love. Anything connected to fibro, I've got it! Just plain miserable & feel like screaming alot. Can't remember anymore what its feels like to feel "normal".
Raised two daughters on my own, sometimes 2 or 3 jobs at a time. I finally HAD TO quit working, doctor's orders, and now I am on Social Security disability.
Only thing I don't have a problem with is sex. It still makes me feel better for awhile. And my fiance is very understanding & we work around my problem.

I see red when I hear the word Fibromyalgia. It seems like doctors don't know what to do with all these same symptoms and so they lump them together and give it a fancy name. I wish just for a day they could stand in the shoes of what it's like to be diagnosed with this.
I hurt all over
Just touch me sometimes and I'm in agony
I want to sleep constantly
My bones and joints are swollen
It causes great stress because you don't feel like doing anything.... and I'm not that old!

Symptoms I have experienced over the last 20 years with Fibro and Chronic Faigue:

Severe Vertigo (dizzy - to the point of disability)
Severe Fatigue
Sore Throat
Memory loss
IBS
IC - (interstitial cystitis - bladder inflamation and severe pain and FREQUENT urination)
Itching ears
Bad Teeth
Vision problems
Reflux
Chest Pain
Tingling
Numbness
SEVERE PAIN
SEVERE MUSCLE WEAKNESS
Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS)
Severe Allergies
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Lower Back Pain and Debilitation
Depression
Weight gain
Abnormal Muscle Biopsy (abnormal mitochrondria)
Severe burning in Feet
Cold extremities
Blowing up - (barometer - pressure problems)
Sleep Disorders
Vivid Dreams
Border Line Hypoclysemia (sp)
LOW CORTISOL
Parvo Virus
Low Immunity
ADD (attention deficit disorder)
Fingernails won't grow
Hair Loss
Face tingling and numbness
VERY DRY SKIN
Light head
Headaches
Heart Palpitations
VERY Low Libido (actually, NO interest in sex)
Shooting pains in legs
Severe Sciatia
Flu-virus-everything that comes along
Anti-social - Lonliness and Isolation
Relationship problems - Family and friends (don't feel like seeing, being with anyone)

Well, is that enough ? I have been dibitated totally with this monster of a disease....been in a wheel-chair, and am almost a total Anti-social now.

I am actually doing better than I ever have OR I have learned to live with it. I am still homebound a LOT, but do find things to do that interest me. Still do not have enough stability to COMMIT to anything, lunches, classes, etc. which is very depressing. I find it easier to NOT HAVE RELATIONSHIPS where I'm always explaining why at the last minute I cannot do something. They say they will understand, but when the time comes...THEY DO NOT. I LOOK TOOOOO GOOD YA KNOW.

It has devastated - RUINED my life. I can't wait for it to be over. I'm not suicidal......or that depressed.....I have a LOT OF FAITH, but I'm tired and will not be dismayed when it all comes to an end. No fear of death in other words. This has been a HARD life. All my dreams DOWN THE PERVERBIAL DRAIN. EVERYTHING IS HARD....and the JOY of Life has left me. I try to stay up, but I know the physical symtoms and abnormalities affect the area of the brain where our MOOD derives. It's not something we can help. My blessings are many and are found in the little things....like being able to get out of bed today....being able to sew a little....watch the deer, rabbits, and the Lord's world pass by. It's not about the BIG things in life anymore. Small mercies are HUGE to me.

I do not take many drugs. Ultram, relafen, zanaflex and a HOST OF VITAMINS, HERBS, and SUPPLEMENTS.

HOPE I WAS NOT TOOOO DEPRESSING.

Health and Blessings to all, NG <><

HI Starlove - I hear you - I've had Rheumatoid and Oteoarthritis for 25+ years and now they think I have FM and Chronic Myofascial Pain! Ick. The burning mentioned by one of the others is what confuses me. I have it all over my body - started in the feet and spread. It's a low simmer in the am and progresses to full boil over the day. A hot bath, a cold rub (not deep massage) and some other things like the pressure, override the buring temporarily. Total absorption in anything helps me ignor it! The best list of symptoms that may be related to FM is 'Devon's List' I found it by doing a general search for "Fibromylagia." It lists 110 possible symptoms (I have @80 of them) check it out.
Good luck

I was first diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel Symdrome and had surgery on both hands and round up with severe Carpal Tunnel bilateral with irrevicerable damage. I then developed Cervical Spondylosis ( severe arthritis in neck area. I then developed the following: Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Fibromyalgia. I am on 18 pills aday. I do have pain all the time and swell and are hot then cold. My feet and hands swell and all the pressure points hurt like crazy I also have silmutameious depression and have trouble sleeping (with out meds), But I can't give up I have the love and support of my 9 year old (which I can't pick up) and my husband. The Doctor has advised me to apply for Disability, which I have done. He also had me do a Function Caplbility Test done on my over all body and I was rated in the sedentary class which is less than light duty. I also have Reflux disease (GERD) allergries, and hypothyroid Disease. My life was certainly different and I am on medical leave I use to be a very athletic person and loved the out of doors. I can't pitch a ball to my son and now I am told I can't work anymore. Please remember there are prople here to talk with you and help you anyway they can.

auntie-m, the burning - does it get so "bad" that it makes you cry? The "simmer" you mention - sounds so right. I find the burning like deep, deep in there, wherever there is (in my feet/arm, etc) and, at times, I just have to cry, but funny thing is, I can't even identify where the pain is really coming from. It's not like the sharp pain of a stomach-ache or the piercing pain of a superficial cut, or the vague pains of PMS... not like the pain of a sprained ankle, muscle pull, etc... it's just so vague yet so overwhelming... I never cry with the other sorts of pain... but with fibro I do, and I find this -really- queer. Anybody feel like this too??

Tootie2

Hurt like hell in lower extremeties. Have problems with eyes because of connective tissue problems there. Have had surgery as a result. Tinnitis in ears, fatigue, memory loss, very difficult to walk as buttocks and legs hurt all of the time. Am I happy, yes. Do I get down, yes. But I feel it could be worse, and I enjoy life to the max. Just can't do what I use to although I am very busy everyday. I do have time to take care of myself now that I no longer work. Have a wonderful support system with my dear husband, daughter and my sweet young grandchildren. I do water aerobics which doesn't help but at least I am getting some exercise and I love to swim. Helps with the fatigue and is energizing. Yes, I do take pain meds, 2-4 a day. Trazadone makes sleeping a great experience. My antidepressant I would not be without. That's it for the meds, except for vitamins, of course. I keep a good attitude, which is important, and try not to sweat the small stuff at all. Yes, I am tired of living this way but what choice do I have. I worry about the walking thing for when I get older. However, all in all, I love my family, have lots of fun with my husband and grandchildren and get all the rest that I can. I push myself too hard sometimes as we all do. Hope this helps. Tootie

Hmm...I don't have half as many problems as some of you guys so I will think of you everytime I want to scream.
I have tenderness all over. Or, invisible bruises as I call them.
Deep, deep burning in legs when walking.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Boils
Insomnia (helped with Amitriptylin for now)
Walking into walls or bumping into things constantly, which my fiance finds amusing :))
Last but not least I just had my first kidney infection, which sent me to the E.R. I didn't know that there could be a connection so I am making an appt. with my FM doc in the morning.
I do have severe dry mouth but I believe that is from the meds.

Also newly diagnosed, about a month ago. Finally got so fed up I went into my doctor, and low and behold-he KNOWS about Fibro! Amazing considering all the horror stories you read.
I am on amytriptiline for sleep and vicoden for pain.
Pain-EVERWHERE at some time or another, most common are lower back, inside of knees, and shoulder. Today ( I imagine because it is days away from Christmas) I seem to be hurting everywhere!
I am tired a lot even though I am finally sleeping more.
I have concentration problems and some short term memory problems.
I have depression.
I have irratibility .
Stiffness always!
So, I am surviving..trying to figure out how to do what I love, and working around this cruddy health issue!

Pretty much all of the above with prominent features being fatigue and leg pain which is worst on the inner thigh near the knees and morning stiffness.

I have some relief with my pet supplement , colostrum ,which has reduced my evening stiffness and leg pain by at least 50%; however, except for when I used to smoke pot, I can't remember my last good restful sleep.

Have had severe leg pain (foot to calves only) for two years. Neck and shoulder pain sometimes and my hands hurt sometimes. Haven't slept well in three years and some weeks average 2 hours a night, even on meds. I seem to cycle through times of stiffness and pain everywhere to the above mentioned leg pain that never changes. I've gone off all meds accept neurontin and a few as needed. I don't want to put myself in a situation where at sometime I will really need pain relief and nothing will work any more.

thank you all for your time posting responces. they have helped me understand symptoms of this disorder. i have several of these symptoms and have been treated by doctors for them for some time. i cant help but think they are somehow related and i think this may be a possability. untill reading this forum i was ready to give up all hopes of help. i know this isnt a diagnosis, but it's something to look into and discuss with my doctor. im finding doctors to look for quick fixes without looking into things. i blame this mostley on insurance companies and there cost cutting over helpfullness. anyhow i just wanted to say thank you to all of you who posted and to the board itself.

I continue to be amazed at how alike we all are in our symptoms. That numbness if I don't position my arms just right goes thru cycles. I never connected it to FB before. Now I know. The nightmares, terrible migraines, stiff neck, hypoglycemia, dizziness, troubles with memory, anxiety, burning pain in feet and lower legs. Sounds like I'm a textbook case!

What helps me the most is a loving, supportive husband. I can't imagine battling this disease without him. Even though he has no idea of what its like, he's always there to lend a shoulder. I feel so fortunate to have him and am eternally grateful, to say the least.

My mom has suffered greatly from FM for years with all the symptoms ya'll have mentioned here in these postings. Recently her dr put her on tht new Fm drug called LYRICA. She is like a new person whereas before she couldn't even get out of her chair for days at a time. Please consult your primary dr to see if this could be an option for you. I have watched her go through this pain and the depression it causes for so long now. IT is great to see her at the grandbabies's bit=rthday parties andbe able to get around on her own more. She still experiences some tireness from time to time but that is to be expected. One of her compalaints was the lack of sleep she was getting. Once on LYRICA this has changed and she is sleeping a full 8 hours a night again. We are so thankful. I urge you to contact your doctor. Sherrieann

I'm new to the Message Boards and am asking for advise and help. I was dx with FM about 2 years ago, symptoms have seemed to worsen since then.
Severe muscle tenderness (it seems everywhere).
My neck and upper back (horrible pain and stiffness),
lower back and hips down to knees sore and painful but not to the same degree as neck and upper back. TMJ, IBS FibroFog and anxiety always present. Inability to sleep until absolute exhaustion forces me to. When I do sleep I wake more tired than when I went to sleep. I have never taken any medication for FM or pain or sleep. My MD has just started me on Lyrica a week ago. I can't see any relief yet but am still hoping to soon. I am VERY afraid of RX meds for pain due to the obvious and also because of the severe nausea they cause me. I refuse to go there until I have tried everything else. Currently I am undergoing PT with TENS treatments and Water therapy. The pain and fatigue have caused me to end my career after 30 years. I just couldn't do it anymore. I really need to connect with others who understand what I'm going through. Thank God I have a wonderful husband who dedicates his life to taking care of me and trying to make me comfortable.
But, I still feel guilty for not being able to work anymore. I have not yet (after 6 months) applied for disability (so afraid of being turned down). I also have alot of guilt for being so tired and unable to do things that I would like to do. It's a struggle to just sit here and post this message:confused: I'm just so tired. Is there anyone who can give me some good advise or answers or opinions on the tx I'm trying? Please Help

I find myself reading your lists of symptoms to see if I have fibro. My G.P. thinks it's a good guess but the Rhumy doesn't have the time to mess with a fibro patient. Seriously.
These are my symptoms.....
zero libido
cramping fingers, toes, calves, thighs
IBS
brain fog
short term memory sucks
depression
very low pain threshold (still feel dental work through the anesthesia and accupunture hurts like crazy)
raw inside inner cheeks along tooth line (when flaring up)
startle easily
need meds to fall asleep
wake up exhausted
joint pain in knees
can't walk very far
weight gain
Low B-12
aniemic

Other than that I'm feeling pretty good. During a flare up my legs feel like I am wearing elastic hose. It's been about a month since a bad flare up.

I feel so fortunate to have him and am eternally grateful, to say the least.
i to have a wonderful husband like you and dont know how i would manage without him sometimes i find it hard to cope with the nightmares and the burning and tingling in my legs i also have bladder problems and keep getting flu like symtons the thing vary from person to person my nuerologist put me on tegretol which completely stopped those awful mygraines i am so grateful for that best wishes acrobat6
