Hi all, I'm on day 12 of Prozac and I'm stuck in the middle of a war, on 1 side the anxiety, the other side Prozac, both fighting it out for control of my body.........my body!
I think the Prozac is starting to win but is it just the side effects that are winning? with the anxiety in the back ground waiting? i understand what people mean now when they say it only masks the problem - we shall see - just sounding off really and i suppose that after 12 days (only) I'm expecting too much!!

Pantz,
I'm really going to have to smack you upside the head !! (joke).
GIVE IT MORE TIME !! as hard as that seems i know because i am the worlds most impatient you really have to stick with it and dont give up. As you know from my postings im still having these bouts of shortness of breaths and ive been taking it 9 weeks now.
I'm going to give it another couple of weeks and if they havent gone competely, which i expected them to, im going back to see if i need a higher dosage, which i really dont wanna do.
So dig your heels in, be patient, and give it another month. If you really arnt coping head back to the Doctors and tell them. < thats my telling off face !!

Don't Worry "Worrybucket":) - i'm sticking with it - i was just after some sort of "its the meds fighting the anxiety" reaction from anyone - its part of my problem,, i'm always checking, re-checking things - people who work for must hate me coz i tell them something, then e-mail them it then tell them again - part of why i'm messed up at the moment!!

Pantz,
Prozac is one of the first anti depressant of the "SSRI" bunch, and it's famous for being the 'slowest' but 'shurest' to take effect. That is to say, don't give up on it until you've given it at least two solid months, it usually only kicks in about one and a half months. If you were interested in something with faster effects, you should have talked to your doctor about taking Zoloft or Paxil, both have the same effects of Prozac but kick in a lot faster (however, some argue they have just a bit harsher side effects). If you would like to feel more at ease with the medication you're taking, I suggest reading up on it, there are some really good books I've read to see exactly how the meds I'm taking affect my chemistry, such as "Feeling good: The new mood therapy" by Dr Burns, in which he covers most of the SSRI's anti depressants and their side effects, along with others. Good luck.
