Rectal Cancer. Just diagnosed this morning that I have rectal adenocarcinoma after colostomy surgery. Anybody out there familiar with the disease? Doc's still waiting to determine stage. Until that's done, they say they anticipate 1 of 2options. 1) surgery followed by radiation/chemo; or 2) Preceed #1 with a round of radiation/chemo. If they do #2 the radiation/chemo may kill some cancer cells that would badly skew the determination of the extent of the disease. I had a PET/CT and met with an oncologist. They won't have the stage until the PET/CT & blood work comes back. The surgery would entail excising the bowel below the colostomy and removing the remaining rectum & anal tissue.
Anybody out there with this problem or another similar experience who would be willing to share, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks.
