Hello Everyone,
About 2 yrs ago, I began taking NSAID's and acetaminophen daily for severe back pain and fibromyalgia. About 1 month ago, I decided that I was tired of popping the darn pills, and decided to wean myself off of them for good.
Approximately 10 days ago, I began having fatigue, darker urine, lighter stools and slight jaundice (noticeable only under the eyelids).
My doctor said that my bilirubin was 5.0, my AST 80, ALT 81, and Alk Phos was 500... so it is apparent that something is going on with the liver. My ultrasound showed a slightly enlarged liver and spleen. I have been drinking distilled water and eating a bland, organic diet, and I feel that both the jaundice and the bilirubin are decreasing.
I have done the web searches, and terrified myself to the point where I am miserable. On one website it says that the liver will often repair itself when the toxins are eliminated...others have a more dire prediction (ugh).
I am seeing a gastroenterologist on Friday (who will no doubt order a CT scan or biopsy).
My question is this: Has anyone else had similar symptoms / labs and come through this nightmare? Any and all helpful info is MUCH appreciated.
Thanks

I Should Also Mention That I Have No History Of Alcoholism, My Hepatitis A, B, C Were All Negative, And My Kidneys, Gallbladder, pancreas And Other Organs Look Ok (according To The Doc). He Did Not Seem Overly Concerned, And When I Said, "am I Going Into Liver Failure?" He Said That He Doubted It. (just Trying To Be Positive)

I was taking about 6-8 per day... about a month ago, I started weaning off of them, and switched to 4-8 800 mg naprosyn per day. My stomach was upset alot so I also took prevacid, and a sleep aid at night (no wonder I'm messed up!)

Mine started in 1999. I got sick with Pneumonia and went to the ER where I discovered that my LFT`s were elevated, I then went to see my PCP and on to a Gastroenterologist who ran several tests, all blood tests for Hepatitis came back normal as well as screens for rare diseases, he did a sonogram of the liver and gallbladder and an upper GI, all was normal except for an ulcer. He was dumbfounded and sent me on to a Hepatologist. He suspected Fatty Liver Disease and so I had a Biopsy of the Liver in 2003, it was fairly normal with minimal inflammation if any, so that ruled out the Fatty Liver Disease, at the time I was taking a lot of Tylenol PM to help me sleep, I asked him about it and he told me that I would have to have taken in excess of 4000 mg per day on a regular basis for it to have damaged my liver, I hadnt,so we ruled that out. Then he told me he suspected I could have Autoimmune Hepatits, he wanted my PCP to monitor my LFT`s every 3 months and I was to see him in a year. Well my LFT`s slowly began to drop on their own, I thought I was out of the woods until this Summer when they started on their way back up once again. So I went and saw my PCP and he told me that he now suspects I might have some blockage of my bile ducts since my ALP was so high. So he is scheduling an MRI of the Bile Ducts to check for Gallstones or Cancer. I pray it is not cancer. As long as this has been going on with me it would have to be pretty far advanced now since it all started in 1999. I have included my LFT`s ran in June of this year so you could compare them to yours if you like. PThe last LFT`s I had run were in July of this year:
