my 13 year old daughter had an uptrasound today which showed she has what they say is consistant with gallstones. Our pediatrician spoke with a pediatric surgeon who has ordered a hida scan. Is this safe and the best way to go?

Yes, it's very safe. It will show the ejection rate for her gb. Anything below 35% is considered not functioning properly. Sounds like she might be headed for removal.
