Hi,

I was reading the hormone stuff and lately I have been getting soo nauseus. I feel the reason is I have extremely low iron, and was told it would be a good idea to skip periods, meaning go back to back on the pills. At the time I should normally get my period I am so nauseus I can hardly stand it. Is this because I have fibro and the hormones are getting to me? Im trying to figure out why I am so darn nauseus all the time. Maybe I shouldnt be doing this? Im guessing the pill is hard on anyone with fibro, but it seems some of you are saying it can help?! Curious....

Hi Beverly,
I get very nauseaed(sp- my fibro fog is at work so I can't spell) anyways, I get bloated, and have abdomen pain yet no period! I am on Birth Control Pills and this has been going on for months yet I am not pregnant nor does the Doc think I am starting Menopause. I just turned 40 though. So I also am curious about the homones and the connection to Fibro. I honestly think there is a connection because I even went to the ER during the time this was happening and I asked them to do a UA too to see if maybe I had a bladder infection. It was negative. Raven,
Wow, you don't ever get your period?? The nausea is horrible- its not nearly as bad today as yesterday and I feel like a different person. Im very new to healthboards, and I read some of your posts/responses in the last two days. I'm truely sorry you have so many conditions- but you seem like a real warrior, and very helpful to others. Im looking for help myself right now- a few people have responded to my first post (the one that says "need help in boston".). They seem like they will be able to give me some advice and referrals. Frankly I don't want life to suck so much anymore- I want to stop being in so much pain! If you have a second, read my first post, maybe you have some suggestions? Thank you and Im sorry I dont have any advice for you- Beverly

Hi Beverly,
No Period here! I guess that is a good thing and a bad thing. My Gyn said you don't want a Period do you? What kind of a question is that? Yet I certainly want to know why I don't have one. Especially since I get all the other stuff on the day it is suppose to start. I wish I was a true warrior, Thanks for the kind words. I hope I do help others while I learn here and I hope you figure out what all is going on with you too. I am here if you need me. Hugs, Raven

Hi -
I've had a recent positive experience from BC (shocking, I know!)
I have SLE, RA, Raynaud's, Sjogren's,(possibly Fibro) and Polycystic Ovaries - meaning I need to be on BC. My endocrinologist and I have been thru a gamut of different pills - which usually sent my SED rate skyhigh and left me on an emotional rollercoaster.

There's a fairly new BC that has been a great solution for me - it's an injectable BC called LUNELLE. It has none of the probs with Depo-Provera (the "other" injectable). My SED rates dropped 30 points the first month and 20 points the second month. I've had a little problem with "moodiness" but I'm taking an anti-depressant to counter it. Studies show that it can lead to slight weight gain, but my antidepressant curbs my appetite so I've lost some weight while on it. Since then, I've been peachy.

Just thought I would share...

Because my periods are always so hard on me, I finally decided to get a prescription for birth controls last month.. I'd taken two brands before (pre-FMS) - Triphasil and OrthoCyclin without any side effects, so my new family doctor put me on OrthoTriCyclin..

Two days of taking it was about all I could stand before I had to stop.. My goal was to feel better by taking the pill, not worse.. I was more nauseous than I've ever been in my life, my heart rate was so high I thought it was going to explode (which might be partially due to my heart block, I suppose) and I felt even sicker than usual..

Needless to say, those particular hormones didn't work for me.. I do have an appointment with a gynecologist (in October - how's that for a waiting list?!) and I'm hoping that she knows more about the hormone combinations in birth control pills than the family doc did because the hormones in OrthoTriCyclin are just plain evil..

One question and one thing to consider though: Does anyone out there know of a birth control pill that works for them? Maybe we're just not BCP compatible anymore.. After all, if you have a disorder that effects every cell in your body and you take a pill that effects you systemically and messes with your natural balance (even if it is a wobbly one), it may not be a good combination..

Yeah, thats kinda what Im thinking too. I mean, Nordet on a day to day basis is the least harsh on my system, Id actually recommend it to someone who is really sesitive to hormones, but I STILL get so darn nauseus like 1/2 the month. I think most of the nausea comes from when I skip periods- and I dont think Ill be doing that again. That was my primary question/problem- does anyone else go back to back sometimes and get way more nauseus. Im sure that is what it is and Im not going to do it anymore.

Hi Scbagrrrl and Creeping,
The best pill to take for me has been the Alesse 28( levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol tablets). They say it has the least amount of hormones in it so I think it maybe what some call the mini pill. I finally found out that this pill could be what is causing me not to have a period. Yet the Doctors say that you have a period just a very lite one and it only lasts a couple of days. So maybe this is the best pill for you Creeping Crud. Maybe you should ask about it. I really can't say that the nausea or any other problem I have is caused by the pill. I have been on BC since I was 17 and I only took a 1.5 yr break(to have my daughter) and I am 40 now so I think it has done me well. Beverly5, I actually have done back to back on my pills(before I stopped having a period) and I didn't notice any more nausea than usual. Take care, Raven

Raven,
I tried Alesse (and 8 or 9 others in the past year). My SED rates were elevated on it - that's why I'm on the Lunelle injectable (1x a month). No nausea, cramps seem less, and my SED rate is low. I'm super happy with the Lunelle - and rec'd anyone that's had probs with nausea or hormone levels increasing the SED rate to ask you dr. about it. Two thumbs up!

Wow, another thing I've right in the midst of here!

I have been off the pill for about 4 years and have 3 boys from a previous marriage. My ex-spouse being fixed, so i didn't need the pill. Now, i recently remarried much younger man that has not had any children and I would like to decide on whether or not we will try to have one. I am 34 and have had FM for 3 years. I started the pill when I started seeing him last Oct. I did fine on it, no sickness, nothing, but I missed my period all together last month, which I have never done in my life. I figured it was stress cause I've heard that could happen, took a test to be safe and it was negative.
Now, he left for a 3 week job out of the state, so I stopped the pills, in hopes that my period would start and I would feel less irritable. Not only did stopping not make it start like it used to, I am now 3 days late for my 2nd month! Took another test last night, still negative???
Could I be in ealry menopause at 35 next month? It's possible. But 2 months missed in a row, with no history of that what so ever???
By the way, I always did fine on Ortho Novum 1/35.

Hey Julianne,

I'm surprised that nobody responded to you (and also surprised that I'd actually posted on this topic before), so I'm here to follow up on my situation and hopefully help with yours..

I honestly wouldn't think that menopause at 35 was feasible.. It's not impossible, I'm sure, but it seems a little bit early in life.. Unfortunately, I don't know why you would've skipped periods while being on the pill (much less why your period wouldn't have started when you stopped taking it)..

I've had more than my share of freaky period experiences (ranging anywhere from having periods that were 14 days apart - bleed a week, stop for a week, bleed a week, etc. - to skipping my period entirely), but nothing menstrually unusual has happened since I started taking the pill last October (knock on wood)..

What boggles my mind the most is that your period should've started when you stopped taking the pills.. Since you're apparently not pregnant, it's probably worth looking into further with your gynecologist.. Pre-pill & pre-FMS diagnosis, I started skipping periods and found out that I had cervicitis (which is fairly easily treated with AVC cream or suppositories).. If your period still hasn't started, I would recommend making an appointment to see if there's anything physically wrong down there..

As for my situation, I started taking Mircette (a low estrogen birth control pill that compares to Alesse) in October and haven't had any problems with it so far.. Actually, I did have one problem.. When I filled the prescription with generic pills about 5 months into the pill taking process, they made me feel sick.. But as long as I stick with the expensive ones, I'm fine..

Take Care,
Melanie

I agree with Melanie. You need to see a gynecolegist, make an appt. It is not common to be in menopause at 35. I started at 39, and that is early. I do not believe it IS menopause that is going on. It could have something to do with being on pills for awhile, but only a specialist can deal with your situation, not a primary or anybody else. Please be seen so you know what is going on and post us when you know, o.k.?
Soleil
