Hello, I am new to this board I have posted a similiar posting on the Neuopathy board and the Fibromyalgia boards. First I am diabetic type 2 and take 2 Metformin am and pm. I hurt all over! I mean all over. My head, neck and shoulder's ache. My right upper arm gets really red and sore (not my shoulder,my upper arm) ,elbow, forearm, wrist, hands and finger's are very tight with joint pain.

My right hip has been pins and needles numb for maybe a year. My thighs, calves, ankles, feet and toes are so sore, like sometimes I just have to stop walking and stand there and try again. My legs from my knees down are pins and needle's,my middle toe is sore/numb when I put walking pressure on it. My feet hurt. I hurt.

I go for a half hour walk everyday with my dogs but I'm really sore after that. I feel beat up. I have taken to wearing compression socks just to maybe ease the tingles and aches. The pain I will describe as burning, stinging, achy and my legs and feet have pins and needles as well. I went to the clinic yesterday and the clinic Dr sent me for a neck X-ray and bloodtest I forget what it's called but it's to see if your muscles are up to something.

I have taken Advil, Entrophin, Asprin Nightime for arthritis, Arthotec,Advil Robax, muscle relaxers and nothing helps. I think I get rebound headaches from all this medicine so what's the point. The Dr yesterday suggested diabetic neuropathy how can you tell? I go to my regular Dr Monday for test result's. If it is diabetic neuropathy I just can't believe how it seemed to come on so fast and furious. Has anyone had diabetic neuropathy who can clue me in. Thankyou

Eep. Didn't realize ALL those are symptomatic of neuropathy, and I'm only 24. *looks at the bright days ahead*

I have had all of your symptoms and what has helped me is Lyrica 150 mg. twice a day. Ask your doctor about it when you see him. Also Alpha Lipoic Acid 600 mg. per day has helped many people. Yes, you do have the symptoms of Diabetic Neuropathy. Also Metformin was causing my deep burning bone and muscle pain and as soon as I stopped taking it and was prescribed Glucotrol that pain stopped completely. Talk to your doctor about this but don't be surprised if he tells you Metformin won't cause this but in my case it definately caused at least the deep burning pain in my muscles and bones although it wasn't causing the numbness or pins and needles pain. Lyrica has helped a lot with those sypmtoms.

my severe neuropathy has improved tremendously (thank God!) with a supplement called l-carnitine. I also have a very strict diet, absolutely NO ADDED sugar and no caffeine. Please read my posting on "what to eat". The l-carnitine has been a God send, but my no sugar diet is key. About 1 week ago i decided to treat myself to a tall cappuccino with tons of sugar, the way I used to enjoy them before my neuropathy got really bad.....BOY did I pay for it...I couldn't sleep at night I was in so much pain.

I also take cinammon supplements, flaxseed oil works great (take 1 teaspoon in the am with a bit of OJ, it is a mild dieuretlic) and alpha lapoic.
