Hi! I haven't officially been dx'd with MS, but the Doctor told my husband that's what they are leaning towards when he did my lumbar puncture. I'm scared to hear the results of everything on Monday, but will be relieved to know something. Does anyone have any advice on how to share this with my kids? My son is having chronic stomach aches, due to stress, and I'm not sure how to let him know it will be ok. Thanks for any advice you might be willing to share! :)

Kids are resilient. There is a book for kids written by a mom with MS. It explains pretty much what to expect. I think that a child is most stressed over the fact that the disease could mean a death. You can reassure your child that you are not dying for a loooong time! You can explain how you feel on certain days and why you might ask for your child's help on some days. My two kids adjusted really well to my PPMS. They never experienced my MS until 2002.
Much prayer and reassurance and you should get through this. It would do well of you to get as much info to your husband as well.

Thanks for your advice. My husband has been really good through all of this. His sister was diagnosed one year ago, and I think the fact that we've seen how they've dealt with it has helped. My husband and I have looked at about every site on the web dealing with MS, but without a definite diagnosis, it's hard to know what to do. People just look at me strange and wonder how I can be almost positive it is MS. I know I'm not a doctor, but I really think it is. I have so many of the symptoms. Do you know why an MRI report wouldn't say anything about lesions, but the doctor would see them? Also, do you know anything about homeopathic remedies, or should I stick with whatever the doctor says?

Many cases of MS will not show any lesions. You should depend on the Doctor (MS Specialist). There are other tests to be run. I have not used any meds for 25 years. As to homeopathic remedies, I only follow a balanced nutrition, watch my triggers, avoid stress, and listen to my body.

welcome,
The local library has books on ms for children, even checking with the MS society. How old is your son?
My kids excepted it real well.but they were older,my son took it harder than my girls.
To do meds or not is up to each individual.I was dx'd in 1998 and had no attacks until 2004.I was on no meds until January 07.
Learning to listen to the body is the best advice I can give you, rest when your tired,if ya can't do it don't.Eat good.
Best wishes on Monday

Thanks for the advice! I have three boys, 13, 10, & 8. My 10 yr. old seems to be having the hardest time. It's hard to tell him what might happen, when I'm not even sure. I'll have to check out the library. I guess we'll see what happens Monday, then I'll know exactly what to look for. Is it normal to have some symptoms all the time, even if you're on the meds?

Kids are resilient but confuse easily. They look to the parent for strength and a rock to lean on. When i was in that process of being dx's i got strung out and my kids got strung out with me. My case was fear of the unknown and my kids had never seen me in that shape. They have been with me every minute of this trip. At a certain point we came together and realized things are going to be different. We use to spend a lot of time fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, baseball ect. We still do some of that stuff on a limited basis. Now we play more video games, watch movies, and do more church activities. Yes changes have taken place but our lives together have not changed. Fear of the unknown can drive you crazy. It is temporary. answers will come if you are persistent. for you and your kids. About the heat; some people on here post that temp changes affect them. only increased heat affects me. in Texas 90 is below average 4 months of the year. i have the least problems in 65 degree and below temps. im a temp expert for my individual lifestyle and work. i have learned the does and don't at certain temps. when i overheat the symptom affects start just as you explained. of course mine are different different than your but there are some overlaps. In high temp, dehydration of any level can end my day. I learned this from and ms veteran of 20 plus year that lives in the same area i do. i read nothing on this board about hydration problems. the ms people i talk to here swear by it. the heat is on going. maybe some case are more sensative to it. i don't know. humor me and be aware of how much water you are taking in on those hot days. I take no meds except Lyrica for shocks and nerve pain on those bad days. i use glyco nutrients. not for ms but to keep my body working properly. As Jay said avoid stress when you can. I sometimes find that imposible. Keep faith that your answers are on the way.
