hello, i just started on coumadin yesterday. i had foot surgery in august and even though i complained to my doctor of pain in my calf repeatedly, they told me it was just muscle pain and lo and behold, 6 weeks later we found out it is a bloodclot.
anyway, i am only 38 yo and i do not drink often, however, occasionally i do like to get a sitter and my husband and i will go out for a nice dinner, bottle of wine, etc. from what i have researched i am starting to believe that this drug is all about consistency and the sooner my blood levels are consistent, the sooner i will be able to go off coumadin (my doctor said the minimum would be 3 to 6 months). so my question is, if i am not a real drinker but then over a weekend have some drinks, is this going to affect my blood level?
also, in february we are going to aruba and this will be the first time my husband and i will be going away by ourselves without any of our children since our honeymoon (our oldest is 10 so it's been a while! lol) and i want to really try to be off of it by then so i can relax and not be so worried about what i eat or drink.
if anyone has any tips or knows anything about this, please help me. i would love to know exactly what i am up against. thank you so much.
