my father has been drinking since he was 15 years of age he us currently noe 42 years old and had been drinking heavly for about 5 years he drinks more then half a bottle every day, is there a possiblity that he can or has cirrosis of the liver?

Rob, that would be hard to say. Different people react differently to alcohol In any event, the drinking thing is not good. It's good that you care. Do a search on the web or look in your local phonebook for AL-Anon. They will give you advice on how you can get your father to stop drinking. They will have meetings in your area where you can meet folks whose spouses or parents have a drinking problem.

Why would you think he may have cirrhosis?
Unfortunately in the western world a lot of people drink too much, but most don't get cirrhosis. Of course drinking can cause a host of other problems as well. He should get a blood test to check his liver enzyme levels. Routine exams usually include this.
