I am afraid that I will get this, just want to know what symptoms you will experience before you figure out that you have it and are there any factors that multiply the probability of getting diabetes? It runs a couple of times in my family.

Thanks in advance

I am new here. I have just been diagnosed with high BS. So I am learning. I kinda figured mine was high. I had all the symptoms. I had extreme thrist all the time, getting up at night 1-2 times to go potty, leg cramps, blurred vision. I suppose the best way to prevent it is just like any other kind of disease. Exercise and eat the right foods. Too much carbs and sugar is not good for diabetes. I know I'm not much help but I am trying to learn more every day by doing research online.
Think positive. Good luck. :)

Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder. The odds are that if you are going to get it, you are going to get it. However, if you lead a sedentary lifestyle, eat poorly, and are overweight, you will most likely get it much earlier than you otherwise would have.

The other poster mentioned the symptoms. Since you have family members with it, I would take the time to borrow a blood sugar meter once in a while. The best time to test would be 2 hours after the start of a meal. The level should be below 140. If it is higher, then you know you should seek medical attention.

I'm not trying to tell you to diagnose yourself, but if you have access to a meter and you are worried, it's not a bad idea to check. Your fasting blood sugar should also be less than 100.
