I was wondering what vitamins are good to take? Is anyone getting the B12 shot?? I have heard of it for different reasons. Exactly what is the B12 for? I have also heard about a magnetic mattress pad or the magnetic bracelets? What exactly do these do for ms?? Just curious. I figured hey might as well give anything a shot!

Eating a well balanced diet is the best. Any vitamins should be natural. B vitamins have been indicated as assisting in the nerves, but any shots or even vitamins should be told to the Dr. treating you. As to magnets, to me, they make for good science experiments but I do not think they would help you.

shaywood, I've mostly heard of magnetic therapy for arthritis. Maybe it works for some but I've never seen enough information to convince me.
As far as supplements for MS, there are things that may be helpful. If you go to the search function and do a searches for both "vitamins" and "supplements" on this board, you'll see some discussions about it. There is a lot of information out there and while some recommendations are pretty uniform across the board, there are conflicting schools of thought about others. This is very abbreviated but if you subscribe to the belief that supplements can be helpful, anti-inflammatories (fish oil, turmeric, etc.) are always recommended, vitamin D3 is pretty new on the scene, some people take B complex or different forms of B and you'll see mixed things about anti-oxidants. There are also things to stay away from, specifically supplements that stimulate the immune system. (My acupuncturist doesn't believe this and he's not alone but personally, I stay away from things like echinacea, cat's claw and astragalus -- but I DO take anti-oxidants.) Anyway, If you're interested in doing more research, try to understand the whys behind different things before popping a bunch of pills in your mouth. :) If you believe that supplements have the power to help, it goes with the territory that they also can hurt.
The things I've read about MS have dictated my own regimen and don't all come from one source. Just as personal example, a few interesting topics to me about MS are inflammation, the blood-brain barrier and oxidative stress. (If you search for any of these topics along with "multiple sclerosis" you'll see that things come up.) Anyway, my point is, if you're interested in trying anything, best to research and understand what it's supposed to do before doing it! :)

I just wanted to add the I used the magnets in my shoes about 10 yrs ago. I didn't believe they worked until I took them out and my feet hurt badly again.
One of them broke and funds were short being a single mom and never replaced them. I would try them again myself!!
Good luck!!
