I discovered that I was anemic about 2 months ago.... My Husband and I are thinking about trying to conceive our second child in 2008. Of course, I am now very scared of being pregnant since I am very anemic and apparently it could take some time for me to feel normal again. But we both would love another baby. Was anyone here anemic while they were pregnant? If so, did you have any complications during your pregnancy / delivery? What did your doctor prescribe or recommend so that your anemia did not affect your pregnancy? Please share your experiences. Thank you.

I was highly anemic only when pregnant w/ both of my boys. All I took was an iron supp. daily. My youngest is now 3 and I am wondering if I am anemic now, have gone in for testing but don't know the results yet. I think you should be ok if you talk to your dr

I was anemic/close to with 2 of my pregnancies. With my one I had to take the normal prenatal vitamins (horse pills as I call them) and iron pills as well through the whole pregnancy and afterwards. The other I had to take prenatal vits. but only had to take iron near the end of my pregnancy because I wasn't anemic but very close to becoming. The first pregnancy I found out I was anemic when I nearly passed out while grocery shopping. I was with my husband (luckily) and I got all lightheaded, walked into glass door and started to fall backwards when my husband had to catch me. He rushed me to the hospital where they did tests and said my blood sugar was a bit low and my iron was WAY too low. Scary experience! I did have some "spotting" with that pregnancy that was checked out but nothing abnormal. Soon after delivery I had another bout of dizziness and lightheadedness while using the bathroom in the hospital, luckily I was in the right place and called for a nurse! I had to continue taking iron for months after that pregnancy.
I would try and get your iron up before becoming pregnant as it can be pretty rough with low iron.
