View Full Version : Going off of Coumadin for dental work (or a short period of time)?

I was just wondering if anyone has ever had to go off of their Coumadin dosages before dental work and how it went. I have to have a root canal done, and my doctor wants me to stop my Coumadin 5 days before the procedure and then wait another 5 days to start it up again. I am on Coumadin for a DVT, currently taking 8mg every day except for 2 days a week, and then I take 6mg. My doctor said my levels have been stable enough recently that he doesn't see any problem of being off of the Coumadin for about 10 days. I personally, am still scared about this because I haven't been off of the Coumadin since I started it over 9 months ago.

Has anyone ever had to stop their Coumadin for dental work? My doctor said he will probably have to up the dosage when I do go back on it to make up for the time I have been off of it, but he said not to worry. I am thinking about calling my doctor to see if I should take an Asprin a day while I'm not on the Coumadin to see if that would help at all.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this and how it went. Thanks in advance!
