Well, it was a nice 2 months or so while it lasted. I hadn't felt that horrid heavy headed dizziness for a while and I knew exactly what it was when it reared it's ugly head last night. I was okay for most of the day - a little "off" because of my cycle, but not bad. Made dinner, sat down with the family to watch some TV and after finished eating I layed down on the couch and BOOM. The dizzy monster hit. It wasn't simply imbalance, it was full on, hold on to something while I try to walk down the hall to my room. Ugggggg Even while I was laying down in bed, the boat was still rocking. I basically just had to wait to fall asleep for the dizziness to stop.
When I awoke it was still there - maybe a little more slight. But enough for me to have to call in sick to work. And even as I sit here typing this, I am definitely swaying.
So I'm disappointment of course. I was doing so well on my migraine diet and hoping that I had everything under control. It's weird - I'm not sure I know what happened. It seems like to started when I laid down, almost like BPPV? Then again, since it's that time of the month, is this all just hormonal related? Or is this an "aura" - part of my migraine because of the hormone fluctuation? Or is this a decompensation event? I don't know but I was really disappointed last night as I lay in bed seasick. It's been a little while so I was kind of used to feel well. Sure, I still had my not-so-good days, but I hadn't had a TOTAL DIZZY attack like that for a while. Big bummer...
Oh well, move forward - that's all I can do! I'm still going to stay on the migraine diet for a couple of more months and then maybe slowly reintroduce some things back into my diet.

I'm so sorry. :( That sucks big time. Since you've been much better in the last couple months, maybe this one will go away quickly!!

Hi Missy,, I'm soryy to hear your down again, I just finished a posting and was about to head off to bed, but this caught my (non-spinning eyes) lol. I use to suffer from Migraines and a lot of times they got real bad.I did the doctor thing, then the ENT thing, then the dentist thing. He took x-rays and said my teeth were in very good shape, wanted to send me to the periodonitist for a "good cleaning" Yeah right HAHAHA. But said he couldn't see anything that would cause migraines. Well see,, I saw this show on tv-and not sure why,, but I bought it hook line and sinker!! I wanted to see an oral surgen. My Dr. couldn't refer me, and my dentist really didn't want to refer me. I got so mad in his office that I theatened to go home and start pulling my teeth out myself!!! Well, he did agree to refer me for an evealuation but asured me that he was stromgly against it, and that if asked he would reccomand against removal. Well, they did the Panaray or Panarex which ever it is,, and as usual couldn't find anything wrong, no absess,no sinus problems, no root to nerve contact or problems. Just nothing to explain my migrains. I got sick & tired of specific diets, and going without so many things (so called "not good for me") and one med after another, and changing doses, and listing and tracking and charting all my triggers. I went back to oral surgen and finally got him to agree to remove all my top teeth, it was not a fun or ease mission. I would never and will never ever advise anyone to do or try this !!!! And They all make it perfectly clear there are NO gaurentees, no refunds, and it is totelly irreversable !!!!But I have NOT had a Migraine since Dec 19 2001,, not even a hit of one. And one of my surely many of my blessings (though so unapreciated during a BPPV attack) is still,, No Migraine !! Sure I do get head aches,, but anyone thats experienced the the MiG,,,, knows the difference

wow.. what a tragic story of incompetence. i can't believe that someone actually agreed to pull all your top teeth out to deal with a disorder that has nothing to do with teeth.
you're dizzy, and you still have headaches? yet you say you no longer have "migraines". the distinction between migraine and non-migraine headaches may be a lot more complex than you think.

Hi Missy,
Sorry to hear you're being hit again. I'm currently getting clobbered too. About a week ago I got a stomach bug. The doc thinks it's giardia. It's really turned my week upside down. It's messing with SSRI absorption and so I feel like I've gone cold turkey - really bad news - feel like black hollow shell - complete derealisation, anxiety, and now giddiness. No headaches though at least. Just took a single dose of an antibiotic to knock it out and now waiting for the fallout. Hope there is none!
No doubt you'll bounce back quickly from this blip.
Best ... Scott

Hi Admw, Sorry you think this is a "Tragic story of incompetence". I can appreciate all opinions, and know well how to accept criticism, and even most times how to apply and learn from it. So, thank you for your reply! But other than suffering from Motion Sickness, I grew up as a pretty normal and healthy child.I never was one for pills or medicines. But I started gettings these REAL bad headaches around 1995,shortly after my last child.I just thought they were just real bad headaches, and I just tried to deal with them like that. I didn't know they were Migrains till my Dr. diagnosed them in early 2000. He did tests and had me on different Anti-depressants and sent me here and sent me there and so on, some helped for a little while then he'd do a does adjustment and bla bla bla. And now, though like I said b4, I'd never advise anyone to ever try it,, and though I knew there were plenty of opposition, and no guantees of success . All I know is that,, some how, and for some reason,,, the risks And the loss(of my top teeth) have been well worth it FOR ME. Also, I never had any of this vertigo crap till after my teeth were removed. I mean I never had any of these BPPV symptoms before, during,or after any of my Migrain attacks. So, though again I'm sorry you take it as being "tragic" I take it more as a miracle (because I have been med free since that procedure). And any regular headaches, which are not very often, very rearly even require an Advil.Which is all I'd take,if or when I thought I may be better off taking something. Well, that is till now, with this BPPV thing,, but even this don't compare to all the different kinds of testes, and crap they were having me take and excercises to try, and things to try to avoid, and I just felt like everybody was just out for somekind of kick-back from any refferal they could give. So I just feel much better off now,,, and prolly shouldn't say this ( but opps!!) ;) My hubby has No complexes or complaints iether !!!!! :o opps lol,and HaHa.

pumama - I'm just glad you're migraine free! :) I've actually been doing pretty well with those myself lately, controlled by the ol' diet (which by the way, I am getting sick of already and it's only been 2 months). ;) Except for this last spin-out, which I am honestly thinking is more due to hormones from hell. I found this message board where women were talking about how hormones cause dizziness. Every single story sounded like us on these boards except that they were from women who were suspecting hormones. It was really quite interesting.
Hey, thanks Scott! I was pleasantly surprised that the scary dizzies only lasted the night that it happened, and then the next day I was seasick but today I'm not too bad. It seems to be getting better quickly as opposed to the other episodes that seemed to last weeks. Knock on wood again!!
Sorry to hear about your "black hollow shell" feeling - I know it well. :( I'm always thinkin' about ya and hoping you are doing well. Sheesh, giardia?? Dang - can't these freak illnesses just give us break!!?? How is the Pizo working? You probably can't even really tell with the other illlnesses you have gotten. I think you just got over a cold recently too? So sorry!

I'm glad it's going away quickly for you this time! Yay!!

So glad you're recovering so quickly now! That's how I've been lately too. If I have a bad day it ends after a couple of days rather than it leading to a few crappy months like it used to. Yay!

I try to explain things here at home to my family,, but they don't really understand. And a lot of times I even start thinking that maybe I've just finnaly lost my mind, and now my body is starting to realize it too.?. I'm real happy to hear that each of yall are starting to feel a little beeter in your each own ways :) I pray thins will continue for you all,, us all !!

Haha, don't worry, it messes with your mind. If you're comfortable with it, maybe show your husband/family this board and have them read some of the stories?
And it is difficult to understand for others. On the outside, we look perfectly healthy. Usually when someone is sick in the usual sense, you can see it (pale), feel it (fever), hear it (coughing, sneezing), at least one of the above. This is invisible, it's all in our heads, or ears, as it were.
Additionally, especially men like to DO something to make things better for you, solve the problem and get rid of it (not trying to be sexist or anything, hope I'm not offending anyone with this). But in order to take action, you have to have a grip on what's wrong first which is made so much more difficult because they can't see anything physically wrong with you. It's frustrating for us and we know how we feel! They just look at us, don't see anything wrong, and are at a loss as to what to do. It's frustrating for them too.

Hi Missy,
Glad your episode was short-lived. You are sooo lucky they come and go like that and leave you for extended periods. I would kill for that. It turns out this current stomach problem was not giardia but was caused by the use of another med I'm on called Valtrex for herpes. Valtrex tears up the GI tract I have since read. Great eh? So now I have an acute case of gastritis which, in turn keeps me awake with anxiety most nights and is causing me to slide deep into another vestibular nightmare. It gets better. I'm flying to Toronto on Wednesday - from Sydney! All up I'll be in a plane for 26 hours. I have no idea how I'll survive it but I'm going hell or high water. No doubt I'll be living on valium for a few days. All of my family in Canada are waiting to see me. It's going to be so hard being upbeat when I feel so wrecked. I hate this condition. I just want to have some fun.
Scott :(

Missy -
I'm sorry to hear about your recent bout of dizziness. I've been feeling decent as of late, taking 5-HTP has been helping. I haven't really had any headaches, but you know with migraines...you might not even get a 'real' headache, but just the dizziness.
I'm sure you will recover sooner than normal, due to the lifestyle changes that you have made. Try to think of what you ate the day or two before the dizziness set in. Anything that you shouldn't of eaten that might've snuck in your diet?
Scott -
I know what you mean about airplanes...I flew a few months ago and I was in pretty bad shape upon getting on the plane. I was very dizzy. Valium is your friend in these times. A nice stiff drink seems to help too, but sometimes it intensifies the spins. Just remain calm and think positively and I think your 26 hour flight will pass with ease. Good luck!

Hope you feel better soon and good luck on your flight!

Oh Scott! Gastritis now, argggggg! I can't even imagine doing the plane. I know you have to though - and you are right - these types of occurrences that we cannot avoid are perfect for valium, xanax, ativan, whatever! And do it guilt-free and try to have a good time. I went to San Diego this past summer during a horrid blip and lived off of ativan and vicodin. Ya gotta do, what ya gotta do.
Keep us posted and let us know how the trip goes!
Thanks WhyAmIDizzy - I tried to think about what I ate to maybe set off my spins and did find out that this caffiene free soda that I have been drinking has the dreaded ingredient, "natural flavor" in it. In fact, it is amazing how many foods have "natural flavor" in the ingredients. Guess what? It's not "natural"!! When you see "natural flavor" in anything, watch out because it is anything BUT natural and definitely on the list of "no-no's" for migraineurs.

How'd you like San Diego?
missy7777
10-02-2007, 12:15 PM
It was actually a bit depressing because everyone was having a great time except for me. ;) We went to SeaWorld and I had a rotten time because I felt so horrid, even with the drugs. It was hot, and crowded and things were spinning.
I usually love San Diego and enjoy SeaWorld and the Zoo and such. I guess "trips" are out for a while until I can feel more normal. Drats

Yea, lol, after I posted that, I thought I should've amended the question a little since you were feeling horrible at the time.
I can't even begin to imagine going to Seaworld during the summer while feeling like this. The heat, the crowds... I can't deal with that stuff when I'm off. It sucks when you want to do family things and this crap just kinda ruins it.
