As I understand it, the body eventually will absorb the clots. The heparin only makes it difficult for the clot to stay lodged anywhere. Of course the coumadin is supposed to not allow the blood to make new clots. ThePhoenix 09-30-2007, 03:58 PM Yeah, heparin doesn`t dissolve clots. It just keep you from developing new ones while your body naturally dissolves existing ones. There are medications that will be used to dissolve a clot, but they have a very high risk for bleeding so they are only used in extreme cases. |
